Review of Junior Team Finals: Germany, Korea and USA are World Champions ! Merida – 20 October 2006   Recurve Junior Men Many people had been impressed by the level of the German Recurve Junior Men archers since the competition started on Monday… Christian Weiss, Forian Floto and Bastian Neusius have been able to withstand the pressure put on their shoulders up to the very end of the team competition today in Merida. After a convincing victory over Japan (216-209) in the semi-final, the real test was coming with a gold medal match against Korea.   Weiss, Floto and Neusius have shown their time had come: they not even won their match over Korea on a comfortable margin (223-212) but at the same time beat the 24-Arrow World Record for the second time in two days (219 on Thursday). They are the new World Champions in their category!   In Recurve Junior Men, the bronze medal was won by Spain after a victory over Japan on the final score of 213 to 208 points.   Recurve Junior Women The Korean ladies have once again proved today that they are the “Queens” in Recurve! After setting a new World Record early this morning in semi-final with 233 points, Kim Soyun, Kim Sugyung and Kim Hyewon have offered themselves a new title with a resounding victory over Russia (221-208) in the Recurve Junior Women gold medal match.   In this category, the bronze has been taken by Germany after they also easily beat Chinese Taipei 215-202.   Compound Junior Men Team USA has set a new World Record for the 24-Arrow Final Match in semi-final: the young Compound Junior archers, John Fleury, Zachary Plannick and Paul Tedford, have score 233 points in there match against Mexico (final score 233-211).   In the gold final the Americans were then facing the Danish juniors who had previously defeated Canada in a very close match (224-223). USA confirms once again that Compound is “their” division with a new victory 220-216.   The Canadians were for their part opposed to the Mexicans for the bronze medal. Realizing a great score of 231, Alexandre Dupuis, Nathan Cameron and Matthew Cornish win the last medal of their category with a 9 points advantage over their opponents.   Compound Junior Women There is no champion as such in this category, because only four teams entered the competition. However, the Compound Junior ladies still had the chance to shoot a semi-final and a final round.

After USA and India respectively beat Turkey (216-209) and Mexico (211-198) in semi-final, they were then opposed in the match for the 1st place. And it is finally the American young ladies who finish 1st after a final victory 215-202 over the Indians.

The Mexicans, shooting at home, realized a very good last match taking the 3rd rank over Turkey (217-211). With these 217 points they at the same time set a new 24-Arrow Match World Record for their category.     To see the RESULTS, click here...   To see PHOTOS from the competition, click here...     Ludivine Maitre Wicki FITA Communication
