World Cup Stage 2 – Quotes of the Day 6
Varese - 5 May 2007
Here below are the impressions of the archers after the individual final matches:
Frangilli, ITA – gold recurve men
It has been a great week for me shooting “at home” and I have enjoyed this final today! I needed two arrows to get use to the field, because the shooting direction was different than in the practice field. I moved a bit my sight and it was fine, except for another 8 that I shot badly. I am happy that I won in Varese!
Aubert, FRA – bronze recurve men
I was stressed although I was trying very hard to stay calm… This was my first time at this level of competition. He started better than I did, because I had some troubles to feel the match. Then I managed to concentrate on my arrows and forget the environment. I shot a series of good arrows at the end. This bronze medal just feels great.
Marusava, BLR - bronze recurve women
I knew a bit about the wind on this field because I shot a team match this morning. I started the match well and could carry it all the way to a victory. I didn’t compete last year because of my baby (redaction note: so did her Italian opponent Valeeva). I am coming back in good shape and looking forward to the rest of the season.
Jimenez, ESA – silver compound men
Braden just shot amazingly. Can you imagine that he could have broken the world record if his last arrow would have been a 10? He shot 8 “x”. Nothing I could do against such an opponent. Overall, I am very happy with this second place, following up my first place in Ulsan. I think I am building on my experience of the World Cup last year. I actually will get some new arrows soon and will try to do even better.
Dos Santos, BRA – bronze compound men
I was already happy with a place in the top four and Patrizio (Hofer) started well. However, he shot an 8 and that gave me some energy. I was nervous but I could control it and finish strongly winning the match.
Ericsson, SWE – gold compound women
I feel happy and relieved. It’s wonderful to win a World Cup event. Competition in compound women has raised a lot the last two years. I want to go to Antalya, Leipzig and Dover so this prize-money will help me finance these trips.
Van Natta, USA – silver compound women
I have had a very good time in Italy and I send all my congratulations to Petra who shot wonderfully. I hope I will get revenge another time. I guess shooting the team bronze match was not an advantage after all. I felt stronger this morning and my energy kind of drained away while I was waiting in between the two matches.
Here below are the impressions of the archers after the team final matches:
Bouillot, FRA – gold compound women team
During the second end we managed to create a small gap and, more importantly, we managed to keep it later on. It’s good to beat this strong Russian team that almost never loses, and it’s simply great to win a World Cup event!
Logan Wilde, USA – gold compound men team
We needed to adapt to the platform, which was a bit shaky when we were changing the shooter. At the end, it was all fine and we shot a very good match: 233 pts is quite a high score.
French Coach Benoît Binon – silver compound men team
No excuse. This is the second time recently that they beat us and I hope it won’t be a third time. After a couple of arrows, we should have adapted to the final field conditions, which are a bit different than the practice field. When the Americans created the gap, it put a bit more pressure on us. We know they are a good team and it is difficult to come back. We could not react.
Kazantseva, RUS – silver compound women team
The conditions were good today but during the match we basically all had one 8 and one 10. For the rest we were shooting 9s. This is not enough to win. It’s OK, we can’t always win.
Van Natta, USA – bronze compound women team
It is always difficult to shoot against the home team. It was a close match and I am happy we could pull out a victory in the second part of the match. I hope it’s a bit of an advantage to shoot this team match in the morning before my individual gold medal match this afternoon, especially since the direction of shooting is not the same in the practice field. We also need to adapt to the platform, which can move a bit, but that’s OK. From a show point of view, it’s good to actually shoot on a platform. It puts us on a stage and closer to the fans.
Mospinek, POL – silver recurve women team
I guess we felt the pressure in the last end. We all shot an 8 during these last six arrows. The Chinese had an open door.
