World Cup Stage 3 – Quotes of the Day 3
Antalya – 30 May 2008
We talked to some of the team finalists today.
Recurve Men
Jayanta Talukdar (IND) In 2007, I had a shoulder injury at the beginning of the year and I had a very difficult season. This year the whole team is actually shooting great. We feel rewarded with this team victory! We trained hard physically during the winter and, two months before the first World Cup, we came back on the shooting range. Personally I still don’t think I have totally caught up with my shooting level of 2006. I still need more confidence, especially during the matches. However, it’s on the good way.
Recurve Women
Shih Ya-Ping (TPE) - coach We had a new combination of archers today. One of them had actually no international experience. We had a tendency to shoot too much on the right today. Maybe we didn’t adapt to the change of the wind compared to the qualifications field. Nevertheless, we must train more the focus on one single point when we aim. I believe we have a strong potential and we will try our best to be on top of the podium soon!
Malgorzata Cwienczek (POL) We are disappointed with the 4th place but hopefully we’ll peak again in August like last year. The Olympics are of course the most important competition this season. I truly hope one day we will hear the Polish national anthem.
Compound Men
Sergio Pagni (ITA) I didn’t shoot very well myself. I am thankful the other guys covered me, but that’s the beauty of team shooting. I didn’t have a good feeling today. I didn’t “feel the 10s”. It was a great match! It’s hard to come from three points behind of the Americans. To tie the match with the last arrows and win it in the shoot-off, it’s really amazing!
Braden Gellenthien (USA) That venue is amazing. This is my first time ever shooting on a beach. The cliff in the background also is something. I enjoyed it! We had a couple of new guys in the team and I am amazed how they handled the pressure of a final field for the World Cup. This was totally unusual for them. Hat off to the Italians! They fought their way back and the shoot-off was then anyone’s game.
Dimitri Chepik (RUS) We wanted to get something out of this competition. It was very important to show some success for the Compound Men’s Team from Russia! We are very happy with this bronze medal, because we didn’t win many of them in the past. My team-mates were in the training camp with the whole team before the competition, but I came at the last minute. Mr Esheev, our president, called me to replace a team member. I was really pleased to come and now I plan to go the World Cup in Boé. I am looking forward to it!
Compound Women
Anna Kazantseva (RUS) My favourite fields still remain the ones for the World Cup Final in Mayapan and Dubai. In Mayapan, you could really feel the history of the place. However, the sea, the cliff, the beach make it beautiful here. I think as a team we have a strong potential and we are happy we could show it today with a victory.
