World Cup Stage 4 – Quotes of the Day 1 Boe – 24 June 2008
Here are the quotes from the qualifications today.
Recurve Men
Matthew Gray (AUS) I “slept” a little bit in the second half. The wind became difficult and I dropped some places. In any case, this year I have been shooting better than ever. My life is more balanced, therefore the shooting is easier. Today is actually my birthday and I am glad we had a nice result with the team, 2nd place.
The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will probably be my last. I believe you have to aim high. I will shoot for a medal. We have a strong team and coaching staff and I hope together we will achieve it.
Simon Terry (GBR) Today I started OK, then had some bad time and finished OK. This is the image of my season so far. I have been too much up and down. I was only 6th at the first British trials for Beijing. I am happy I worked my way through and earned finally my selection for the Olympics last week. It will be my second Games after Barcelona 92! (redaction note: where he won a bronze in individual and team). I hope I can gain more confidence until the Games. A good result here would help.
Rahul Banerjee (IND) At the beginning I could not reach the 10. I was just all around. Then, a tricky wind rose, the clouds came and the light was therefore different… Thanks, everything fell back in order and I had a good second half.
Recurve Women
Victoria Koval (UKR) I had two halves of 327 and 333 pts. These are normal results for me nowadays. The arrows dropped a bit too much in the red in the first half. I believe I had three 7s. In the coming weeks, I want to be more consistent. I want to be all the time in the yellow. We’ll have a training camp in Kiev and in Beijing just before the Olympics so I hope that I can raise my level. I am very happy with the 4th place of the team this morning. All the three archers shot up to their capabilities.
Justyna Mospinek (POL) I started well but the 2nd half was not as a good. Too many arrows went on the red. Maybe I was a bit tired or I suffered a bit from the heat. I want to do better tomorrow.
Compound Men
Peter Elzinga (NED) I felt very well the entire qualifications. I started with 59-58-59 so I didn’t think too much about the World Record. However, that 58 turned out to be my lowest end. Then, the arrows kept falling in the 10. I am really happy because my previous personal record was 701, which I achieved three times. So this mark of 709 is great for me and probably a Dutch record.
Patrizio Hofer (SUI) I was feeling really good today. Everything went well. However, tomorrow is more important.
Compound Women
Nichola Simpson (GBR) – new master World Record I did 684 points, 6 more than my previous record! I am having a great season. Only Antalya wasn’t so good. I don’t know why. Today, I did only 109 points during two windy ends but then I concentrated better. I finished really strong and I am very pleased with my performance!
Ivana Buden (CRO) I had better days. I was shooting more 9s than 10s and a few mistakes later I was low in the ranking. My concentration was too low especially when the wind started. Actually, I think a few of us would like to have back these three ends with the wind. Finally I am glad that I shot better at the end.
Jamie Van Natta (USA) I had a rough start. The arrows simply didn’t want to go in the 10 at the beginning. I don’t even know why. Eventually it went better and I finished strong.
