A great atmosphere at the team competitions!
Kundu-Antalya
In team elimination matches, each team shoots four times six arrows in two minutes, simultaneously. The three archers per team (or their coach) are free to choose the order of shooting. Juniors shoot at 70 meters and cadets at 60.
Recurve Junior Men
The no. 6 seed Ukraine made it all the way to the final! They first beat Great-Britain, 208-198 and then the no. 3 seed Mexico, 224-213. Finally, in the semi-final they beat another surprising team Germany, 210-200. Ukraine will meet the no.5 seed Australia. The Australian team defeated France 209-207, then the USA in a very tight match 210-209. Finally, they had a very passionate match against Italy, which Australia won 205-201 (score evolution: 53-50, 104-102, 152-151, 205-201).
Recurve Junior Women
The no. 1 seed Russia did not go through their quarter-final against Denmark, losing 210-217. However, the Danes could not confirm in the semi-final versus India. The Indians prevailed 202-193 (score evolution: 52-51, 99-98, 151-148, 202-193). China was more consistent as a team. They first beat Italy 208-183, then France, 214-203 and finally Poland, 207-195.
Compound Junior Men
The USA had a very tight match against Mexico in the quarter-final. Both teams tied at 227 points. In the three-arrow shoot-off (one per member), the Americans were just better and won 28-27. In fact all the other quarter-finals were tight. The no. 1 seed Australia beat Switzerland 228-227, Russia won over Denmark 230-229 and Italy prevailed over Canada 227-225. In the semi-final, the Australians, who did a world record in qualifications, were beaten by the USA, 227-229! The Americans will meet the Russians in the final, because the latter beat the Italians, 231-225.
Compound Junior Women
The no. 3 seed Russia took out the no. 2 seed Italy in the semi-finals, 217-211. At the same time, the Americans beat their Canadian neighbours, 222-216.
Recurve Cadet Men
The big favourite Koreans did not miss the opportunity to reach the final. They shot extremely well the whole day and concluded their semi-final with a 229-213 victory over Chinese Taipei. In the bottom part of the draw, the Czech Republic was the surprising team. They first beat India, 216-209 and then France, 223-209. However, they could not keep it up in the semi-finals where they lost against Italy, 199-205.
Recurve Cadet Women
The Korean girls also did not miss the opportunity to reach the final. The Australians gave it their best shot against the Koreans in the quarter-final but that wasn’t enough, 214-220. Then Korea finished today’s job by beating Chinese Taipei, 213-195. The seed no.2 Ukraine was also on it’s way to the final. They beat the USA, 212-202 and then Poland 207-204. In the semi-final, they were leading Germany (53-50, 104-104, 156-154), but they fell apart in the last end and lost 204-210. The Germans will meet the Koreans in the final!
Compound Cadet Men
The USA set a new World Record during the quarter-final when they beat India 233-220. The USA went on to equal their performance in the semi-finals and prevailed over Great Britain, 233-223. The other semi-final was much closer and at the end Mexico just got a one-point advantage over Canada, 230-229.
Compound Cadet Women
The quarter-final match between Mexico and Australia was ferocious. Both teams did not want to let go and ended tied at 216. They went to a shoot-off (each member releasing one arrow), but they were again tied with a good 28 points. In the second shoot-off, Australia finally had the better hand, winning 28-26. However, the Australians could not carry it further and lost against the Russians 214-218 in the semis. In the upper part of the bracket, the USA beat India 225-216 in the other semi-finals. There will be the three USA-Russia compound gold medal finals tomorrow.
The team gold and bronze medal matches will be played on Saturday: cadets as of 9h30 and juniors as of 14h00. Turkish TV TRT will show the last matches live as of 16h00.
