Indoor World Record for SCHUH (FRA)

Berengere SCHUH (FRA), new world record holder   Recurve Men
With a total of 593 points out of a possible 600, Simon TERRY (GBR)—individual and team bronze medallists at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games—left all opponents far behind. His first pursuers are Andres GOMEZ (ESP), Brady ELLISON (USA) and Rafal DOBROWOLSKI (POL), all with 588 points. At 5th and 4th places with 587 points, we find Yuriy HAVELKO (UKR) and Daniel MORILLO (ESP).

Jean-Charles VALLADONT (FRA)—winner of the Nimes Indoor Tournament this year—is seeded no. 10, while Mauro NESPOLI (ITA)—team silver medallist in Beijing—is the no. 17 seed after qualification. Three times Olympian Vic WUNDERLE (USA) qualified at 15th place, he who won individual silver at the indoor world championships 2005 in Denmark and a team bronze at the 2007 edition in Turkey.

In the team event, Great Britain—with Michael PEART, Simon TERRY and Alan WILLS—took the first qualifying place with a total of 1760 points followed by USA with 1752 and Mexico with 1743 at 2nd and 3rd ranks.
  Recurve Women On the women’s side, 2003 indoor world champion Berengere SCHUH (FRA) set a new world record for the 60-arrow indoor round with 592 points—previous was 591— and qualified at 1st place. Four times individual indoor world champion Natalia VALEEVA (ITA) closely follows at 2nd place with 591. The defending indoor world champion Nami HAYAKAWA (JPN) qualified at 3rd place with 588, three points in front of Karina WINTER (GER) and five before Coby HURKMANS (NED).

The 2007 World Cup bronze medallist Natalya ERDYNIYEVA (RUS) and the 2008 World Cup winner Justyna MOSPINEK (POL) lie in ambush at 7th and 9th places. Mariana AVITIA (MEX)—youngest archery participant at the last Olympic Games n Beijing—qualified 12th with 574 points.

In the team event, Germany finished 1st place with a total of 1731 points, only two and three points in front of Italy (1729) and Ukraine (1728).
  Recurve Junior Women The first four girls dug a gap with their pursuers in this youth category. Tatiana SEGINA (RUS) finished 1st with 582 points, followed by Iryna DUBAS (UKR) with 578, Maja Buskbjerg JAGER (DEN) with 576 and Hsuan-Ya WANG (TPE) with 574.

Ukraine took 1st place in the team event in front of Russia and Chinese Taipei.
  Compound Junior Men The situation in Compound Junior Men is closer with the top four lying within three points. The best shooter this morning was Garret ABERNETHY (USA) with 586 points. Second was the Swede Jonathan FRIBERG with 585, and third and fourth the two Italians Luca FANTI with 585 and Jacopo POLIDORI with 583.

The situation in the team event shows Italy 1st with 1747 points, USA 2nd with 1744 and Denmark 3rd with 1722.

This afternoon, the Compound Men and Women, the Recurve Junior Men and Compound Junior Women will look for qualification in their respective category. The top 32 individuals in each category qualify for the 1/16 eliminations taking place on Friday 6 March. The top 16 teams in each category will shoot 1/8 eliminations on Saturday 7 March.
