Peter ELZINGA (NED): “The format is more attractive for the archers and spectators” Antalya – 4 June 2009 We met with Peter ELZINGA at the end of the qualifications day and came back on the testing made by FITA for a new competition format. Peter, you were present at the latest test of the hit-miss system. What are your thoughts on this test? The test was super! With the new colors and the format chosen it seems a lot better. The persons who rank higher in qualification have the advantage but it is not sure that he or she will win. There is still a chance for the lower ranked shooters to reach top positions in the end. At least with this system you rule out the “luck factor” much better. What are the differences and the novelties? Because it is a set system, it should be much more attractive for the archers and spectators. Especially for spectators who don’t know anything about archery, it will be easier to understand this type of competition. It definitely sets compound apart from recurve and I think the shooters will love this format. It puts a lot more pressure on the archers and delivers some interesting matches. In any case I think it’s a step in the right direction to get compound into the Olympic Games. Dean ALBERGA FITA Communication
