World records for DAMSBO and YUN!

The weather was still hot and even more humid than yesterday. However, there was less wind than yesterday and the archers displayed some great shooting! Athletes shoot a FITA Round which represents four rounds of 36 arrows at distance of 90, 70, 50 and 30 metres for men and 70, 60, 50 and 30 metres for the women. The archers can break the world record on each distance or on the overall FITA Round. Recurve Women The ranking after the first distance—70 metres—was quite tight at the top. YUN Ok-HEE (KOR) had 336 points followed by Rimil BURIULY (IND) with 334. Two athletes tied at 333, Berengere SCHUH (FRA) and JOO Hyun-Jung (KOR). YUN stretched out at 60 metres with a new world record! She had 353 points, two more than KIM Yu-Mi (KOR) did back in 2004! YUN had a total of 689. JOO was 2nd at 60m with 349 and a total of 682. SCHUH was 3rd, KWAK Ye-Ji, 4th, and the young Tatiana SEGINA (RUS) came at an intermediate 5th place with 667 points. The Indoor World Champion Karina WINTER (GER) was 6th. YUN continued to shoot strongly the whole day! She was 1st again at 50m with 341 points and tied for 1st at 30m with 358 points. In total she shot 1388 points, one of the best performances ever for a recurve woman in a FITA Round. JOO was solid at 50m with 336 points (2nd place) and had 352 at 30m for a total of 1370 (2nd place overall). SCHUH had 329 at 50m and was the best at 30m with 358. She broke the European record on this distance and finished 3rd overall with 1360. Tatyana BORODAY (RUS) surged to be among the top shooters with a good 50m (331 points) and concluded the qualifications in 4th position with a total of 1347. The Porec World Cup winner, ZHAO Ling (CHN) followed with 1345 ahead of BURIULY , KWAK and WINTER. In teams, Korea led halfway with 2041 ahead of Russia with 1988 and Germany, 1967 points. Korea finished with 4100! Russia had 4007 and India, 3974.
Compound Men
At 90 metres, DAMSBO photo set the world record at 350 points with his 36 arrows!! The Dane needed to score a perfect 10 with his last arrow to surpass the previous record set by Liam GRIMWOOD (GBR) in 2008 by one point. The recent FITA Round world record holder, Peter ELZINGA (NED), shot on the same target as DAMSBO and scored 345. Wesley GATES (RSA) had 343.
ELZINGA was the best at 70 metres with 356 points and climbed to the top of the ranking with 701 points. Despite a low 347 (less than at 90m!), DAMSBO was 2nd with 697. Sergio PAGNI (ITA) moved up to 3rd with a total of 693, tied with Patrick COGHLAN (AUS). Ruben OCHOA (MEX) had 692, Jorge JIMENEZ (ESA) and GATES, 691 points.
ELZINGA was the best again at 50m with 357 points. Kevin TATARYN (CAN) was 2nd on this distance with 356 and PAGNI (ITA) 3rd with 354.
At 30 metres, six archers had a perfect 360 points! ELZINGA, JIMENEZ, COGHLAN, TATARYN, Dietmar TRILLUS (CAN) and Stephen CLIFTON (NZL). However, none of them broke the world records based on the number of X10 (inner 10). On the overall ranking, ELZINGA was 1st with the second best performance ever, 1418 points! DAMSBO finished 2nd with 1407, PAGNI 3rd with 1406. JIMENEZ had 1405 and COGHLAN 1401 to make it five archers above the once mythical 1400 barrier!
On the team side, South Africa was a surprised team leader at the lunch break with 2044 points! Australia had 2040 and New Zealand 2039! The New Zealanders climbed to the top during the afternoon finishing with 4154. Russia was finally 2nd with 4152 and Australia 3rd with 4151.
