18 March 2010 - Individual Champions Crowned at the Asian Grand Prix

The Asian Grand Prix concluded with the individual and team Finals Bangkok – 18-19 March 2010 Archers competed in the individual gold and bronze medal matches on Thursday morning in Bangkok (THA). A Mixed Team event was shot in the afternoon. The competition concluded Friday with the team finals.   Recurve MenDrama took place in the men’s gold medal final when in the 2nd end the Iranian archer came down two times and with 3 seconds to go prepared to shoot his final arrow. An appeal was under way since the arrow might have been shot out of time. This disturbed the proceedings of the match and the match result gave the win to Iran pending the outcome of the appeal. The Jury of Appeal decision was that the arrow was shot out of time and therefore BANERJEE won the match after 10 points were deducted from the Iranian archer. The FITA rules clearly states that when an arrow is shot out of time the highest scoring arrow is removed from the end.    In this division the team gold medal went to India ahead of Iran and Thailand.   Recurve Women The women’s recurve match between KIM Hee-Jung (KOR) and Deepika KUMARI (IND) saw a change over after the match seemed over when the Indian archer had a bad start. However it was not so, and a perfect 10-10-10 in the last end gave KUMARI a well deserved win.    As did the men's team, the Indian women's team won the gold medal with a great win 214-211 over Korea. For bronze, Kazakhstan easily defeated the Chinese Taipei 212-193.   Compound Men The men’s compound match was an Indian affair between HANSDAH and SRITHER. Three shoot-offs were necessary to determine the winner. The more experienced HANSDAH won in the end. YE Min Swe from Myanmar won the bronze (photo).    The host nation Thailand won the gold medal in the team competition! Vietnam won the silver and India the bronze.   Compound Women Ngeain AUNG (MYA) won the gold medal over Amaya PAZ (PHI).
