25 March 2010 - Venezuela wins three Gold Medals in team finals

Venezuela wins three Gold Medals in team finals Medellín – 25 March 2010 The archery competition of the South American Games concluded successfully today in Medellín, Colombia. The organisers put together a wonderful event.   The favorite women’s compound team of Venezuela met all the expectations and won the gold medal in the South American Games which just concluded in Medellín. Headed by World Cup Final winner Luzmary GUEDEZ (right, in Copenhagen), they defeated the host team 220-213.   Venezuela’s men’s compound and women’s recurve teams upset favorites Brazil and Colombia respectively, and took home two more gold medals. In the men’s compound finals, DOS SANTOS shot an arrow in the two-ring in the third end due a problem with his release aid and opened the way for Venezuela’s victory 222-216. Chile beat Colombia for bronze 221-213.   The biggest surprise came in the women’s recurve event, in which Colombia’s Olympic team was never able to overtake their Venezuelan opponents. The support of the crowd that filled the stands was not enough for the Colombians, who did not seem to be able to shoot arrows in the yellow circle. The final score was 196-194. Argentina took the bronze versus Brazil.   The last gold match was the men’s recurve. Colombia fielded a team which included individual winner Daniel PACHECO (15 years of age) and veteran Juan Carlos ECHAVARRIA (48). This combination of youth and experience led the host team to an overwhelming victory over Brazil (210-192). Venezuela edged Argentina for the bronze medal (189-186).   You will find the results of the South American Games here and a photo gallery on www.ianseo.net.
