6 September 2010 - Hundred archers from five countries on the shooting line

Hundred archers from five countries on the shooting line Jarvakandi (EST) – 6 September 2010 Recurve mixed team: 1.TJA (FIN) 2. Ilves (EST) 3. Vilnius LSK (LTU)    On 20-22 August 2010 around hundred archers from Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania gathered together in Jarvakandi, Estonia for the 41st Jarvakandi Open / 2nd Toomas Kivilo Memorial. As expected, bringing together the best archers from several different regions—Baltic States (EST, LAT, LTU) and other North Europe countries (FIN, SWE)—together was a perfect premise for new national records. The tournament can be considered a success with twenty national records broken by Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian archers. Also the Finnish archers put their effort together to set new field records, not to mention all the personal best performances.   The toughest competition was in the recurve division amongst 53 men. In the 41-year long history of this competition 1300 points had been enough to win the FITA Round. This year the competition was tenser and Antti TEKONIEMI (FIN) won with 1324 points. Janis AMATNIEKS (LAT)—16-year-old only—came out as the winner from the elimination round. In recurve women Inga KIZELIAUSKAITE (LTU) took the lead both in FITA and Elimination round.   The FITA Round winners were Marko JARVENPAA (FIN) and Jelena BABININA (LTU). However, neither of them managed to win the elimination round. Vladas SIGAUSKAS (LTU) showed his excellent skills in the matches and won the competition. In the women's division the young Mariel JAATMA (EST) defeated more experienced opponents.   There is a tradition to have a separate competition held at 30 metres right after the end of the FITA Round. It is called "Gold Game". The rules are simple: archers shoot one arrow each; if it is good enough, they then continue; if not, then the competition is over for them. In the first three ends it has to be a yellow to get the pass to the next round. For the next three ends it takes a 10 to continue. After that the game is only with X10. This year the winners were Matti HATAVA (FIN) in recurve and Jaan KOOKLA (EST) in compound. The gold game prizes were put out by two archery shops—Falco and Helsinki Sherwood.   Although it started raining during the award ceremony, everybody seemed happy. Traditional wooden prizes were given out to the FITA Round winners, as well as unique handmade ceramics by former top archer Kersti VEER. The elimination round and team round winners got unique competition medals, but probably even more excitement was caused by a prize draw. We thank Easton for putting out quivers and Win&Win for bows. Lucky winners for W&W's were Gerda POCIUNAITE (LTU) and Siim AAVER (EST).   More information and all results on the archery club ILVES webpage: www.vibuklubiilves.ee   Siret LUIK Organising Committee 41st Jarvakandi Open / 2nd Toomas Kivilo Memorial Competition www.archery.ee Edited World Archery Communication
