Maria Emma Gaviria re-elected World Archery Americas President
Maria Emma Gaviria (Colombia) was re-elected President of World Archery Americas for a four-year term on 22 June at the continental federation’s general assembly, held ahead of the 2026 Pan American Championships in Tlaxcala (Mexico).
The assembly was attended by World Archery President Greg Easton and secretary general Raul Calin. In his address to delegates, Easton highlighted the work World Archery Americas has done to drive the development of archery across the continent and thanked member associations for their continued commitment to the sport.
Gaviria, who has led the continental federation since 2014 and was honoured earlier this year by the Colombian Olympic Committee for her contribution to sport, will continue in the role through to 2030. She also serves on the World Archery executive board and is president of World Archery Colombia.
“I can only assure you that I will continue to work with the same passion and the same principles and goals to take World Archery Americas even further,” said Gaviria.
The assembly also elected Gabriel Ramos (Mexico) as vice president, while Aaron Bull (Canada), Oscar García (Costa Rica) and Kevin D’Amour (US Virgin Islands) were voted in as members of the council.
Sergio Font (Cuba) was reappointed secretary general for another four-year term, while elections were also held for the organisation’s nine committees
Delegates allocated the 2028 Pan American Championships, which will serve as the continental qualifier for the LA28 Olympic Games, to Tijuana, Mexico.
The three stages of the 2027 Americas Grand Prix were awarded to San Salvador, El Salvador; Guatemala City, Guatemala; and Daule, Ecuador. Delegates also allocated the 2027 Pan American Indoor Championships to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the 2028 Pan American Youth and Masters Championships to Daule.
Six motions were approved during the assembly, including the creation of the Continental Judge Candidate category and a proposal to declare the Pan American Indoor, Field and 3D Championships as open events, meaning registrations can be submitted through Wareos.
World Archery Americas also recognised a number of member associations and individuals for their contributions to the sport. World Archery Mexico was named 2025 Member Association of the Year.
Randall Jones (Canada) was appointed honorary judge, while Carlos Hermes (Guatemala) and Phil Graves (USA) were named honorary chairmen of the medical and sports sciences committee and development committee, respectively. José Miguel Robiou (Dominican Republic) was appointed honorary council member.
Competition at the 2026 Pan American Championships started on 24 June and concludes on 28 June in Tlaxcala, following the World Archery Americas general assembly.
