Alison WILLIAMSON made Member of the British Empire
Lausanne
The honour was bestowed on Alison WILLIAMSON earlier this year for her services to the sport she has served magnificently over many years. A Member of the British Empire (MBE) is one of the high profile awards given by Queen Elizabeth II twice a year to mark an individual’s achievement or contribution to society.“It was such a proud day, and a wonderful honour,” said Alison WILLIAMSON, a six time Olympic archer and bronze medallist at the Athens Games in 2004. “To be recognised like this is just incredible, and having taken part in the London Olympics, it has been a fantastic year for me.”
“But this is not just about me, because nothing I have achieved would have been possible without the support of so many people throughout the years – family, friends, coaches, team mates, staff behind the scenes and sponsors, and I am eternally grateful to everyone.”
Said Archery GB chairman, Dave HARRISON: “Alison thoroughly deserved this honour, and everyone in the archery community is immensely proud of her.”
“She has not only been a magnificent archer over many years – and six Olympics is a phenomenal achievement – she also makes a fantastic contribution to the sport in many other ways, as do her family. I’m delighted she had such a wonderful day.”
The Queen herself, or a senior member of her family, hand over the award at special ceremonies at Buckingham Palace. The Princess Royal is the Queen’s only daughter.
