The 6th WA Coaching Seminar has started in Brazil
This seminar gives coaches an opportunity to share best practise and coaching techniques. It also allows participants to visit the Olympic venues prior to the 2016 Olympic Games.
The first point of satisfaction for the participants has been the excellent sport centre hosting the seminar. It is the National Volley Ball Centre of Brazil, located in Saquarema (not far from Rio de Janeiro). The accommodation standard of this centre is very high, probably one of the best in the world. Consult this link if you want to know more about this 4-star sport centre.
The programme and lecturers have made the audience active. Proof is the high number of relevant questions from the participants. The first day started by a joint introduction from Ken BEARMAN, Chairman of the WA Coaches Committee, and Pascal COLMAIRE, WA Development and Education Director.
Rodrigo FONTES RIBERIO, Director of the Brazilian Beach Volley-ball introduced the host centre. He explained why and how his sport is so successful and important.
Diego TORRES and Ivan GOMEZ have explained how the use of simple bows made of PVC water tubes (pboto top right) is largely contributing to the important progress of Colombian archery. The participants showed high interest for this locally made bows, not only by its easy making and cheap cost, but also by the way it can facilitate the learning of basic archery skills to the novices. The bow can develop up to 30+ pounds and can be used to 20+ metres. No doubt that the PVC bow, allowing dry fires, will be adopted by several participating nations.
Doug DENTON (photo left), the Senior Recurve Engineer and Production Manager from Hoyt, presented the history of the famous US bow maker. Then, the participants were invited to visit the Hoyt factory through several pictures and videos. Doug introduced the latest risers and limbs developed by Hoyt, and particularly those he engineered, including the Formula Paralever Mounting System. This system reduces of 40% the stress on the riser and offers a better lateral limb stability due to the two fixing points that are more separated than the standard limb fixing system.
John DUDLEY, a well-known US Compound archer and author of many articles, hooked the audience with his simple and quiet way to explain the 6-step shooting process he recommends.
The above panel of experts from different countries have already covered topics for level 1 to level 3 coaches. A friendly relationship has been generated by the interest of the pertinent lectures and the good accommodation. Pleased of this first day, the participants were eager to attend the next days of the 6th WACS.
