Records fall to USA: day 2 at Nimes 2014

The highlight of the day was, of course, Erika JONES’s new world record. In a class of her own, she blew past one of the oldest records in archery – on the way to taking top seed individually and with her team.

Her male USA counterparts took the top sports in compound men’s qualification, too. Jesse BROADWATER and Braden GELLENTHIEN went 1-2, both on 598.

The States’ junior women compound archers that set the other world record: 235. Shot during the semi final, it was three points more than the total Russia posted in 2006.

Jean-Charles VALLADONT, expected to be among the best, shot a miss in the fifth end. It was a case of absent mindedness… he forgot his clicker. No matter, the confident Frenchman soon climbed back into the cut.

Despite shooting three eights, Mexican Olympic silver medallist Aida ROMAN got top seed after the recurve women’s ranking round: “I want to make all the training worth it!”

Thomas KOENIG is officially a force to be reckoned with, and Bridger DEATON deserves his spot on the USA’s senior team for the upcoming outdoor World Cup season.

Brother and sister BUDENs from Croatia are always behind each other on the line – and the younger sibling has a chance to go one up on the more experienced of the pair!

Italy and Turkey will face USA teams for gold in the compound junior team titles. The recurve junior gold finals both feature Ukraine: against France for men’s gold, Italy for women’s.
