Two times perfect: India’s VERMA

Lao’s Kharmvan VANLIVONG didn’t stand a chance in the top seed’s first match: Abishek VERMA put 15 arrows in the 10 oblivious to his opponent. The quarters match was closer, but Majid GHEYDI (IRI) was still nine points off the pace.

Earlier this week, VERMA dropped just 12 points over the 72-arrow ranking round to finish on 708. It was good enough to take the compound men’s top seed in Bangkok – and was an early indicator of just how dangerous he’d be at this Asian Grand Prix.

VERMA won his first international podium at the Asian Championships last year – a silver medal – but made the top ten at last year’s Bangkok Asian Grand Prix, the 2011 Universiade and 2010 university worlds.

The 24-year-old will be shoot for Bangkok gold tomorrow against Iran’s Esmaeil EBADI. If the pair had met today in the semis, VERMA would be settling for silver… he shot his competition-low 144 while EBADI managed a 146.

Which of the pair will turn up on form tomorrow?
