President impressed by young athletes on DPR Korea visit
World Archery President Prof Dr Ugur ERDENER recently took up an invitation to visit DPR Korea’s national archery training centre.
This is the very same centre that produced the three young archers in the nation’s recurve women’s team that made the bronze medal match at the first 2014 Archery World Cup stage in Shanghai just last week.
“Our athletes have trained well,” said the DPR Korea head coach after his team won its first-round match in a shoot-off in which they drilled two 10s and a solid nine. “Some are professionals and others combine archery and studies.”
That’s one thing Prof Dr ERDENER left impressed by: the young age of the athletes shooting extremely well in the archery centre’s 70-metre indoor facility.
It’s not often we get to see DPR Korea archers in action outside of world championships, Asian Games and the Shanghai Archery World Cup stage. But with such promise, and increasingly good results at the tournaments they do attend, we’re looking forward to seeing what the future brings for this nation’s talented young team.
