DODEMONT pips States trio to Medellin pole
French archer Sophie DODEMONT only improved over the 72-arrow ranking round, shot at 50 metres. She overtook two-time world champion Albina LOGINOVA, from Russia, and the strong USA squad to take the top spot.
DODEMONT was just three points off Erika JONES’ world record. “It’s a testimony to the compound women’s division at this tournament,” she said. “It was really anybody’s day.”
It wasn’t an American or LOGINOVA who slotted into the second seed, either. Surprisingly, Katia D’AGOSTINO – who’s never podiumed at an international event – took that spot.
States archer JONES was disappointed: “I started off better than I finished, but I felt like I should have shot better. I hope I make better shots later in the competition.”
“The conditions are perfect,” added teammate Jamie VAN NATTA. Who classified her round, which won the fourth seed, as having “moments of brilliance and moments of idiocy!”
Sara LOPEZ was the highest ranked local archer, the Colombian ranking in eighth.
France have the top seeds in both compound categories at Medellin 2014, after PJ DELOCHE won the men’s ranking round.
