Three compound takeaways from the Antalya early rounds
Paris 2013 World Cup Final and World Fair Play Award winner Martin DAMSBO lost in the compound men’s second round this morning at Antalya. “It was… windy,” the Dane explained! “I had some good ends, some bad ends.”
“I had two really good close matches. The first one I was lucky to win and the second I drew the short straw – facing Britain’s Adam RAVENSCROFT – and lost it.”
DAMSBO did prepare for the changing winds: “I put a little more weight on the centre of the bow to make it more stable in the wind, but it wasn’t enough.”
With no World Cup ranking points collected in Antalya, Martin’s chances of making the Lausanne Final this year to defend his title are almost nonexistent. A win in Wroclaw might be enough…
Shanghai 2014 winner Sebastien PEINEAU was on the target next to world number one – and his French teammate – PJ DELOCHE in the second round. DELOCHE lost, but PEINEAU sneaked ahead of Germany’s Marcus LAUBE by a point.
“I don’t really like shooting in the wind,” said PEINEAU. “I did some adjustments and put two side rods on the bottom of the bow. It felt better. Marcus was really strong against me, especially in these conditions.”
Normally, PEINEAU goes to a trigger release in the wind. Today, he’s stuck with his back tension release so far. “I have the trigger in my pocket,” he said. “But I’m happier with the back tension. We’ll see what happens in the third round. In this kind of weather, you can never know.”
The upset of the morning: compound womanSuvaporn ANUTARAPORN, from Thailand, beating Korea’s Shanghai gold medallist CHOI Bomin.
