Jere Forsberg shot a new para world record at 25 metre with 585 points in Espoo (Finland) on 7 March, pending ratification.

The Finnish Paralympian delivered a 294+291 scoreline at the national-level event, surpassing the previous mark of 580 set by John Stubbs in December 2019.

Forsberg said the shooting felt particularly stable throughout the day.

“I felt really stable today and the result could have easily been even better without couple of just barely out arrows,” he wrote on social media after the competition.

The 32-year-old is a four-time Paralympian, having represented Finland at the Games in London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, and winning Paralympic gold at his first appearance. Forsberg also claimed world silver in 2013, won the European title in 2022 and added continental bronze in 2023.

Looking ahead to the international season, Forsberg said the performance had boosted his confidence.

“The shooting felt quite easy the whole day even though my only aim for this competition was to break the world record. The result shows that I have been doing the right things in practice and gives a huge confidence boost going towards the European [Para] Championships in April.”

The result has been submitted for ratification as both a world and European record in the compound mens para archery category over 25 metres (60 arrows).

If ratified, the 585 would improve the standing world record by five points.
