Jozef Bosansky adds another 50+ world record in Slovakia

Slovakia’s Jozef Bosansky continued his remarkable record-breaking season by setting a new compound 50+ men world record at the Slovak Outdoor Championships in Teplička nad Váhom on 29 August 2026.

The 50-year-old scored 711 points over the 50-metre round (72 arrows), improving his own previous world best of 710 by one point. The record has now been officially ratified by World Archery.

“Not the start I wanted. But exactly the fight I needed,” said Bosansky in a social post.

The Slovak opened the competition with a 56 but stopped chasing the score and returned to his process, focusing on his coach’s advice and taking the competition one arrow at a time. He finished the second half with five consecutive clean ends before shooting his only 9 of the 36 arrows on his second-to-last shot.

Bosansky finished with 352 points in the first half and 359 in the second.

“Today was a reminder that the score is not always about how you start. It’s about how you respond,” said Bosansky.

The new record adds to a prolific year for Bosansky in the 50+ category. Just days after his 50th birthday in May, he set both the 50-metre round record with 710 points and the double 50-metre round record with 1416 at a national competition in Slovakia, before teaming up with Petra Kocutova to improve the compound 50+ mixed team world record twice within days.

Bosansky set his first career world record in November 2024, shooting 596 points out of 600 over 25 metres indoors to break a mark that had stood for 24 years.

He took up archery at the age of 38 and went on to win compound men’s gold at the 2023 European Games before being named World Archery’s 2023 Compound Archer of the Year.
