Double gold for Ana Maria Rendon as San Salvador 2026 concludes

Ana Maria Rendon

Colombia topped the medal table at the San Salvador 2026 Grand Prix of the Americas with three gold medals: compound men’s team, recurve mixed team and recurve women’s individual.

Top seed Ana Maria Rendon claimed the individual title and mixed team gold alongside Felipe Gomez Zuluaga, as well as silver in the recurve women’s team event. The nation secured eight medals in total.

Rendon, a four-time Olympian for Colombia, is one of the longest-serving recurve archers on the circuit, having made her international debut in 2002 and still competing at Paris 2024.

She has also represented Colombia extensively at regional and continental multisport events, winning titles at the South American Games, Bolivarian Games and Central American and Caribbean Games.

The tournament in San Salvador also served as a qualifier for this year’s Central American and Caribbean Games, although Colombia had already secured its places at Santo Domingo 2025.

Colombia was challenged on the medal table by Guatemala and host El Salvador.

Guatemala claimed the recurve women’s team title, edging Colombia in a shoot-off, while Julio Alfredo Barillas Aragon secured compound men’s individual gold. Barillas was also part of the team that won Hyundai Archery World Cup gold in Medellin in 2023.

El Salvador’s Roberto Hernandez took bronze in the individual compound event and was part of the mixed team that won gold, as well as the men’s team that took silver. Sofia Paiz, his mixed team teammate, secured individual bronze and was part of the winning compound women’s team.

Chile also had a good meet, with Andres Aguilar taking the recurve men’s title and Aurora Olea Prado winning compound women’s gold.

The event featured a field largely focused on the Central American and Caribbean Games later this year, serving as a stepping stone towards the Pan American Games and potential qualification pathways for the LA28 Olympic Games.

The next stage of the 2026 Grand Prix of the Americas is set for Santiago (Chile) from 19 to 23 May.
