Dos Santos doubles up on gold as El Salvador dominates Santiago
Brazil’s Graziela Paulino dos Santos continued her impressive form in Santiago, defeating local favourite Javiera Andrades at the second stage of the Grand Prix of the Americas to add a world ranking event title to the South American Championships gold she won the day before.
The world number 153, who was part of Brazil’s recurve women’s team that won silver at the Medellin 2025 South American Open Championships, delivered a dominant 6-0 victory with ends of 26, 30 and 27 in the recurve women’s final.
The double gold in Santiago marks her first individual titles since winning the 2018 South American Games.
Otherwise, the final day of competition belonged to El Salvador, which claimed five gold medals – two of them courtesy of Oscar Ticas.
The world number 76 showed strong fighting spirit and composure under pressure to overcome Toral Pérez Pablo Ricardo 6-4 in a thrilling recurve men’s final in which the lead changed hands several times.
The victory was his first gold medal of the season, following silver at the opening leg of the Grand Prix of the Americas in San Salvador.
He also teamed up with Jocelyn Urias to win recurve mixed team gold against Brazil.
The compound men’s final produced one of the most dramatic finishes of the day.
Chile’s world number 114 Alejandro Patricio Martin Arriagada opened with back-to-back perfect 30s and appeared destined for victory until El Salvador’s Douglas Vladimir Nolasco responded with a perfect 30 in the final end to Martin Arriagada’s 28, sealing the title by a single point, 145-144.
El Salvador’s most decorated archer, Roberto Hernandez, missed out on individual bronze after losing a tiebreak to Ecuador’s Mateo Sebastian Oleas Rodriguez, but made up for it in the team events.
The world number 31 paired with Sofia Paiz to claim compound mixed team gold and combined with Nolasco and Miguel Angel Veliz to secure the men’s team title.
Ecuador’s Blanca Maritza Rodrigo Bueno – the 19-year-old who topped qualification with a career-best 699 – edged Peru’s Beatriz Aliaga Hurtado 145-143 in a tightly contested compound women’s final.
Aliaga Hurtado had won the South American Championships title a day earlier but was unable to repeat that success at the Grand Prix.
The home team had reason to celebrate too.
Chile’s recurve men’s team of Andres Aguilar, Andres Gallardo and Ángel Moises Vega Valdivia defeated El Salvador 6-2 to win gold, while Javiera Del Río Cubillos, Aurora Olea Prado and Mariana Paz Vincench Pasten combined to edge El Salvador 218-217 in the compound women’s team final.
