First Los Angeles 2028 Olympic quotas awarded at Asian Games

Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Rajesh Jadhav won the first ever compound Olympic quota.

Four countries won the eight tickets on offer for the LA28 Olympic Games at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 last week.

Although the qualification process does not formally begin until the Medellin 2027 Hyundai World Archery Championships in Medellin in September, the mixed teams and top two individuals in recurve division at this week’s event in Aichi-Nagoya will be issued spots.

India’s Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Rajesh Jadhav made history, becoming the first compound mixed team to secure quota places for the LA28 Olympic Games, where the category is set to make its debut.

The pair prevailed over Korea’s Park Jungyoon and Choi Yonghee 20-19 in a shoot-off to earn the spots.

In the recurve individual, Korea’s Lee Woo-seok and Japan’s Junya Nakanishi secured the two quota places available in the men’s competition while Indian teenager Kumukum Anil Mohod and Korea’s Oh Yejin earned the two women’s spots after finishing in the top two.

Meanwhile, China’s Zhu Jingyi and Li Mengqi secured the two quota places on offer in the recurve mixed team event.

Qualification for the archery competitions at Los Angeles 2028 continues with the continental phase late into 2027. Places are available at the European Games, African Championships, Pan American Games and Pacific Games.
