Ki Sik Lee to leave AIS Archery Program after eight-year reign as head coach
6 October 2005
Mr Ki Sik Lee, head coach of the Australian Institute of Sport Archery Program, today announced that he would be leaving the Institute on 17 December 2005.
Ki Sik Lee, who joined the Institute in 1997, said his decision was based on a desire to seek new challenges within Archery.
As head coach of the AIS and Australian Archery team, Ki Sik Lee has been the driving force behind Australia’s outstanding international success in archery.
He coached former Institute scholarship holders Simon Fairweather and Tim Cuddihy to Olympic success.
Fairweather became Australia’s first ever-Olympic gold medal winner at the 2000 Sydney Games, while Cuddihy won a bronze medal at last year’s Athens Olympic Games.
AIS Director Professor Peter Fricker paid tribute to Ki Sik Lee for the outstanding contribution and commitment that he had made to the success of the AIS Archery Program.
‘Ki Sik Lee has shown by his results why he is regarded as one of the best archery coaches in the world,’ Professor Fricker said.
‘Over eight years he has played an integral role in the development of Australia’s best young archers.’
‘The success of our Australian archers at Olympic and international level has been largely due to his efforts.’
‘His vast coaching experience will be sadly missed by everyone at the Institute and within Australian archery circles. We wish both Ki Sik Lee and his family all the best for the future.’
Archery Australia Chief Executive, James Larven paid tribute to Ki Sik Lee saying he would always be able to claim “a significant role” in the development of the Archery in Australia and leaves us with a significant legacy.
The AIS, along with Australian Archery will now begin the recruitment process for a new head coach.
