Team World Record for Australia

All the archers who turn a maximum of 18 years old during the year of 2008 can compete in the junior category of these Youth World Championships.
  Recurve Junior Men MANDIA was brilliant over the two days of qualifications. He ranked 1st at 70 meters and 2nd at 90m, 50m and 30m. Overall he deserved his no. 1 rank with 1327 points. Today his teammate Luca MELOTTO passed Mick DE BAKKER (NED) for 2nd place, respectively with 1314 and 1312. The Cadet World Champion in 2006, Ryan TACK (AUS), came back to 4th place with 1303 points. All the individuals in all categories will shoot the matches tomorrow, but a better rank in qualifications means a better road to an eventual victory.   In the team competition, Italy led with 3924 points and created a huge gap over Russia, which was 2nd on 3859. Mexico stayed on 3rd with 3834. At 16th place, India with 3674was the last team to qualify for the matches.   Recurve Junior Women The Cadet bronze medallist in 2006, STEPANOVA defended a good lead with 1334 points. In 2nd place, LU Siyi (CHN) put in a good performance at 50 meters but stayed in 2nd place with 1313. Nina MYLCHENKO (UKR) emerged in 3rd position with 1311. Cadet silver medallist in 2006, Pranitha VARDHINENI (IND) dropped one place, at 4th with 1309. Cadet World Champion Jane WALLER (AUS) fell to 8th.   For the teams, Russia increased its lead over China with 3896 points over 3882. Ukraine took 3rd place with 3813. Malaysia earned the last qualifying spot for the matches with 3516 points.   Compound Junior MenWALLACE continued his qualifications with a very impressive display and finished with 1398 points, just one point off the World Record established by Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA) in 2004! Unfortunately the Australian dropped three points at 30 meters, which could have made the difference. Simon ROUSSEAU (CAN) stayed solid and finished 2nd with 1375 points. Luca FANTI (ITA) stayed at 3rd place, ahead of Andreas DARUM (DEN) and Adam GALLANT (USA). Other notables include recent Field silver medallist T. F. SORENSEN (DEN) at 7th, Adam WRUCK (USA) at 15th and 2006 Cadet silver medallist Kevin BURRI (SUI) at 18th.   With a score of 4085 points, Australia broke the team World Record by two points! Guy PHILLIPS and Andrew BRADLEY shot with WALLACE. The previous record was held by the USA. Italy ranked 2nd with 4072, and Denmark 3rd with 4043.   Compound Junior Women NICELY stayed solid and ranked 4th at 50 meters and 5th at 30 meters. Good enough to keep an overall 1st place with 1385 points. The 2006 Cadet bronze medallist Lucy O’SULLIVAN (GBR) emerged on 2nd rank with 1372, just one point ahead of Samantha PRUITTE (USA). Malin JOHANSSON (SWE) and Camille BOUFFARD-DEMERS (CAN) both scored 1370 points. Cadet World Champion Anastasia ANASTASIO (ITA) stayed in the 10th place she reached yesterday.   USA led the team with 4070 points, twenty points ahead of Italy, which was closely followed by Russia, Germany and Canada.   Some impressive performances but nothing is over yet as the head-to-head eliminations matches can change everything tomorrow!   Didier Miéville FITA Communication
