8 October 2009 - The First Caesar's Arrow – Yaron Tal Field Competition

First Caesar's Arrow – Yaron Tal Field Competition Lausanne – 5 October 2009   During the weekend of the 25th/26th of September the first Caesar's Arrow – Field Competition took place in the ruins of ancient Caesarea. 48 archers from the 7 clubs throughout Israel participated.   The Course was made up from 12 unmarked targets and 12 marked targets and a semi and final round. This was a test competition which was held under the auspices of the Israeli Nature Reserves and the Company for the Development of Ancient Caesarea. The Yaron Tal Cup was awarded to the winning club based on individual scores of the club archers.   This was a chance to bring the sport of archery back to a location where archery was used as a weapon.   The competition was quite difficult due to targets placed in various locations such as along to the seashore and on the first day there was quite a strong wind and some of archers felt that they would be blown off the shooting posts.   A very good atmosphere existed, this was greatly due to the enormous amount of visitors at the site who could actually see the archers at every target, this was a condition of the people in charge of the site, as the site cannot be shut down over the weekend. It caused the organizers some safety problems but all these were solved.   The archers all enjoyed this different setting quite a lot. Due to the success of the completion it will be held again next year maybe with 24 targets. A main goal is to have an open International completion in 2011.      Source: Jay BEN-ARI FITA International Judge The Israeli Archery Federation   Edited by FITA Communication
