9 March 2010 - Judges Give Egypt the Thumbs Up!

Judges Give Egypt the Thumbs Up! Ain Sokhna (EGY) – 9 March 2010 Egypt pulled out all the stops to host the 8th Federation of African Archery (FAA) Continental Championships. Currently in progress, the competition is being attended by 10 countries all competing for the title of Continental Champion.  Opened by an official of the Ministry of Sport, and with the national band in traditional pharaoh dress entertaining the dignitaries, the FITA Secretary General, Mr Tom DIELEN made mention of the fact that Africa is the fastest growing continent, providing evidence of the success of the development program. It is also the first time that the Continent has massed such a high power and qualified judge’s team.    With technical delegate IJ Andrew OMALLA, the team comprises of the judges chairman, IJC Dr Ahmed KOURA (EGY), IJC Charmain HO (RSA) DoS, CJ Ahmed ROUSHDY (EGY), NJ Haitham ZAKARIA (EGY), NJ Eslam OSAMA (EGY) and NJ Maya SHALABY (SLO).   The initiative by the continent has resulted in it becoming self-reliant on judging capacity; and has had the honour of serving FITA in various capacities. Dr KOURA has been appointed to officiate at the Youth Olympic Games later in the year, while Maya SHALABY, a national judge, has recently completed the examination for the new judge’s category of International Youth Judge.   The high standard of judging was illustrated by the feedback from the technical delegate as well as a smooth running, incident free competition.   The games take place between 7-11 March in the desert city of Ain Sokhna. At the raking round positions, Egypt currently hold the lead in four categories, with South Africa holding two positions.   According to Charmaine HO, director of shooting, she is honoured to be working with such an empowered group of judges, a sentiment echoed by Dr KOURA, the chairman of judges, who remains enthusiastic and who has expressed his joy at being able to serve FITA in such an honoured role.   FITA Communication
