Federation of African Archery Congress
Ain Sokhna – 10 March 2010
At the occasion of the African Championships the FAA Congress was held on 8 March as foreseen in the constitution. The delegates took some strategic decisions to improve the structure of the Continental Association necessary to support the growing number of nations in Africa.
A constitutional change was approved to have a permanent headquarters in Egypt instead of at the home of the President. This will allow to provide a better service to the members and improve the communication. The President Mr. Andrew OMALLA took the responsibility for the issues related to communication and is convinced that this change will improve the communication. A system of webmail will be offered to all members.
The President appointed a group composed of Aladin GABR (EGY), Paul ZINSOU (BEN), Selwyn MOSKOVITZ (RSA), Ganesh CHETTIAR (MRI) and chaired by the President to make a new constitution in the next 3 months, which will be presented at the Council meeting scheduled in June. Mr. OMALLA also announced that after this meeting he will resign as President. Mr Aladin Gabr was elected 1st Vice-President and will become President after this resignation.
The FITA Secretary General Mr. Tom DIELEN and the FITA Development Director Mr. Pascal COLMAIRE were present at the Congress. They congratulated Africa for the medal won at the last World Championships as well as for the progress made in the level of the archers at the African Championships. Tom DIELEN also expressed his respect for the President of FAA who had the courage to admit that mistakes were made and proposed the necessary changes for making FAA a more effective body. He also expressed his wish that Mr. OMALLA remain active in the FAA and the sport since we all know his love and dedication to the sport.
The congress ended with a request for the countries that wish to organise the next Championships to submit a bid before the next Council meeting.
