PERKINS and SCHLOESSER tied on top!

These two young talented athletes hold most of the world records in the junior and cadet categories. PERKINS even has a record in the senior one (Indoor) and he won nothing less than the senior world title last month in Turin (ITA). They both scored 701 points in the qualifications today. However today, SCHLOESSER had the upper hand at the end. He shot 56 tens to take the 1st place, while PERKINS had 53.
All the compound archers shot their qualifications (72 arrows) and the first two rounds of the team events (24-arrow matches) on Tuesday.
Compound Junior Men
Garrett ABERNETHY (USA) ranked 3rd behind SCHLOESSER and PERKINS with 694 points. The American had one point more than Jacopo POLIDORI (ITA) and Christos AERIKOS (GRE). The Italian actually had the best first half with 353 points in 36 arrows, before dropping to 4th place. Francisco ROJAS (COL), Colann SCHREUDERS (NED), Jesse GALE (AUS) and Ben CLELAND all had 691 points. There will be a shoot-off among them tomorrow to distinguish the 6-7-8th places from 9th. The top 8 only gets directly pre-seeded in the 1/16 eliminations for the individual matches, while the 9th ranked athlete needs to start at the 1/48 eliminations.
Compound Junior Men Team
The three members of the Dutch team had a new junior world record in qualifications with 2082 points! The previous record of 2060 from a Danish team was actually also surpassed by Canada (2074) and the USA (2064).
The teams played the 1/8 eliminations and the quarterfinals. In this category the top four seeds will meet logically in the semi-finals on 26 August. They all scored at least 230 points in their quarterfinal matches: Netherlands v Belgium 232-227, Mexico v Italy 230-226, USA v Spain 231–226, Canada v Denmark 232-225.
Compound Junior Women
The current youth world champion Inge VAN CASPEL (NED) dominated the qualifications with 688 points ahead of youth arch-rival Kendal NICELY (USA), 682. Giulia CAVALLERI (ITA) was 3rd with 678 points, two more than Alejandra USQUIANO (COL) and Ekaterina KOROBEYNIKOVA (RUS).
Compound Junior Women Team
The favourite Americans were head and shoulder ahead in the team category with 2026 points, ahead of Italy, 1986, and Russia, 1974.
In the team matches, Mexico upset Great Britain 220-213 in the quarterfinals and will meet the USA in the first semifinal. Russia beat the Polish hosts 221-203 and will meet Italy on Friday.
Compound Junior Mixed Team
With two No. 1 individual seeds, SCHLOESSER and VAN CASPEL, Netherlands was of course first in the mixed team category. Both archers scored a total of 1389 in qualifications, ahead of ABERNETHY/NICELY (USA), 1376, and POLIDORI/CAVALLERI (ITA), 1371.
Compound mixed team matches will be played tomorrow.
Compound Cadet Men
Bridger DEATON (USA) was first in individual qualifications with 699 points – only 2 less than the top juniors at the same distance of 50 metres. His teammate Danny BUTTON (USA) had 694, while Jacobus LOOTS (RSA) scored 690 points. They were ahead of Jordan MITCHELL (GBR) and Stephan HANSEN (DEN), 689, Mario CARDOSO (MEX), Aldolfo MEDINA (MEX) and Tomas RESTREPO (COL), 687. Ravi SARDAR (IND) and Rodolfo GONZALEZ (MEX) had both 685 points, one more than Riley WHITING (USA) and Domagoj BUDEN (CRO), brother of famous Ivana.
Compound Cadet Men Team
The USA was 1st after the qualifications with 2077 points. Mexico had 2059 and Denmark, 2040, just three more than Croatia and Great Britain, 2037. Italy had 2029 and Turkey 2021, India 2020 and South Africa 2017.
Turkey was the surprising team in the afternoon matches. Seeded No. 7, they first beat the No. 10 seed Spain 221-218 and then the No. 2 seed Mexico 227-226! The Turkish athletes joined Denmark, Great Britain and the USA in the semifinals.
Compound Cadet Women
Danelle WENTZEL (RSA) brought something to smile to South Africa. She dominated the Compound Cadet Women with 686 points. Sydney WATSON (CAN) and Mariia VINOGRADOVA (RUS) were tied at 679 points.
Compound Cadet Women Team
The scores were tight among the three top teams! Mexico got 2002 points, USA, 1995, and Russia, 1994!
Croatia beat India 217-210 in the quarterfinals to join Mexico, Russia and the USA for Friday’s matches.
Compound Cadet Mixed Team
South Africa had a little edge in the Cadet Mixed Team with 1376 points. The USA and Denmark were closely behind with 1367 and 1360.
