Flash Quotes from the Compound Finals

Compound Men Gold Finals  Christopher PERKINS (CAN) – Gold medal Lot of nerves! It was my first time in a world championship, but my performance was very steady. As my coach says, I have learned how to cope with my nerves! At this moment I do not even know what to think. I had no expectations coming into this competition. It is my first senior world championships and I only competed in one World Cup stage, last year in Ogden. I finished the qualification in 5th position and that gave me a boost of confidence. Then I followed through with my matches and I shot scores of 148 consistently. Each match gave me even more confidence to carry on. Today I was not intimidated by the final venue. It is beautiful, the organisation did a great job, but it did not intimidate me. Now I’ve won my first world championship and I am only 19 years old. For me it is great! I am so happy. It is unreal!   Compound Women Gold Finals   Albina LOGINOVA (RUS) – Gold medal I really wanted to win. I knew I have to win. I had to do this for my team and my country. My coach and I worked a lot for this victory and my team supported me but I was not 100% confident about this. When I went to Ulsan in 2009 I knew for sure that I would be the champion. It is a bit funny because I think I actually trained harder to prepare for Turin than for Ulsan. Of course, I am upset that we lost in the team and mixed team elimination rounds. I am very happy to become the world champion for the second time in a row! My victory has not totally sunk in yet. I will fully understand it when I get home. Compound Men Semifinals   Reo WILDE (USA) This was an amazing match but I have the feeling I had only one bad arrow and lost the match. Christopher PERKINS (CAN) shot really well. It would have been difficult to win.   Jesse BROADWATER (USA) I did not shoot as well as I wanted to, but the adrenaline changes the way you shoot. You have to learn how to shoot with adrenaline. The match is different to practice. The more you shoot under pressure, the more you learn how to cope with it and the better you shoot. Although I made a couple of bad shots, I am satisfied because the important thing was to make it through and I made it!   Gabriel BADENHORST (RSA) This was a very nervous match. It is the first time I have gone further than the first elimination round. I am gaining experience. My last two ends were easier, I just tried to shoot properly. It is very good practice for me. I hope to give a better show at the next round.   Compound Women Semifinals  Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA) I shot better than I scored. I released two bad shots but I do not know what happened. I started quite low, but the truth is that I do not know why.   Albina LOGINOVA (RUS) This match was very successful for me. I started to lead from the first end and tried to keep this advantage during the whole match. Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA) is a very strong archer. We meet very often at different competition at different stages. I tried to stay calm and concentrated. This is the only chance for our Russian team to win a medal at this championship and I have to fight till the golden end.   Pascale LEBECQUE (FRA) I am very happy I won this semifinal. It was very difficult to shoot better then Parsamehr MAHTAB (IRI). She shot a 6 at the first end and that unlucky shot gave me an advantage. Now I can say that I am ready to shoot for the gold medal.   Compound Men Team   Reo WILDE (USA) – Gold Medal It was good being able to defend our title. We have some truly amazing shooters in our team and this match has been great! We shot an almost perfect 239 out of 240 points; we are so happy about it! This tied the new world record we shot in the quarterfinal this week!   Torben JOHANNESSEN (DEN) – Siver Medal It was a good match. We are at a great venue. The American team shot really good. They beat us again, but they tied their world record. What you can do? It is the fourth final we lost against them in a row, but who knows maybe we will beat them next time [he smiles]. Simon ROSSEAU (CAN) – Bronze Medal I am pretty happy, we all are, even if the score is a bit low, but at the end all you need is to win! This was my first time in a final at the elite level and I enjoyed it. Besides we have a good coach supporting us. We are happy we won the bronze!   CHOI Yong Hee (KOR) This match was really nice. It is the first time for us to shoot the final at the World Championship. We did not know how it would be and we were a bit nervous to see the area around and so many spectators. We enjoyed the match. We did not win the medal but for us it is a great experience. Next time we will try to win the Gold.   Compound Women Team   Jamie VAN NATTA (USA) – Gold Medal We shot really well! We are always very proud to win the gold for the United States. These finals are taking place in a beautiful setting, as is usual with World Archery! We shot with pleasure and enjoyed it very much. The last time we won the gold at the world championship was 2003 in New York. Christie COLIN was part of the team. Then the three of us medalled in Madrid 2005. The USA also won medal in 2007 and 2009, but we are now very happy we are the world champions again! This is actually my first outdoor archery world title altough I participated at my first world championships in 1997! So yes, I can consider it as the pinnacle of my career so far, although I consider that I have had a lot of good years already, including a win at the World Cup Final and I still hope to do a lot of good things in the future!   Seyedeh-Vida HALIMIANAVVAL (IRI) – Silver Medal This was a very good match in which we did our best, but we probably did not fight enough. Actually we do not know why we lost the gold! However we won the silver medal and we are happy!   Luzmary GUEDEZ (VEN) – Bronze Medal I am very happy for the results. Our team has been working hard to win this championship and when we shot our last arrow, we realised that we won a medal for our country! It is a really rewarding experience. I am really really happy for everybody who helped us achieve this result!   Linda OCHOA (MEX) Our team has been strong until the day of the competition. Today we got off on the wrong foot, but these things happen so we cannot do anything about it.   Compound Mixed Team  Sergio PAGNI (ITA) – Gold Medal Torino brings good luck! Yesterday my loss in individual bothered me. I scored 146 points and my opponent 149 out of 150! But now everything will be different with a medal around my neck and my teammate Marcella TONIOLI (ITA) won a gold medal at her first world championship! For me this is the fourth world championship that I am attending, but it is the first one with the mixed team matches. So let's say we both won a gold medal at our first World Championship! We have been shot together several times – in Antalya, Porec and Boe – so this is already our fourth time shooting together and we have beaten the world record twice!  Being two instead of three in the team makes it harder to “cover” the other's mistakes. We are competing with each other and we are having fun. Take the world record we scored a few days ago: we made it shooting two 9s, one each. I do think that mixed team is a category where Italy can repeat as medallists. We have a good pool of shooters from which we can take the best man and the best woman for an event.   I hope to go to the Olympic Games one day. I have even named my green spare bow “Hope for Rio”, because I really want to go there. However, compounds have a lot of competitions to attend already.   My next target is to win the World Cup Final for the third time in a row, so I could win the special challenge, which is given to those who win the title three times in five years. And I won two titles already!   Inge VAN CASPEL (NED) – Silver Medal I am happy with my performance. I felt a bit nervous, because it is my first final at such a high level competition. I never shot finals as a senior, only as a junior. Unfortunately, my teammate was very close to 10-ring a lot of the time, but just a few millimetres out. We hoped to win the gold, but the Italians are shooting in their own country and they were stronger. We did all we could. Still I am very glad to win the silver.   SEOK Ji Huyn (KOR) – Bronze Medal I felt very nervous but it was a bronze Medal match and we both knew that we cannot lose it. The time ran really fast and I shot one arrow into the 8 because I saw there was not enough time. At the end we had an arrow in question, but the judge confirmed it was a 9. We won the bronze and now I am very happy!   Parsamehr MAHTAB (IRI) This final was really exciting and it was great for me to be here. My shooting was very good but for a single liner point we are the losers, it is a pity! Congratulations to Korea, their two archers shot very well and I hope there will be a new opportunity for us to meet them in a match. This afternoon I will have to shoot in the individual semi final match against the athlete from France and I hope this time I will win.    Mariya LARKINA, Dajana PICCOLO, Rebecca RABOZZI World Archery Communication
