University champions ready to shoot next Olympic Games in 2016
In the men’s category the winner was Daniel SUTER from USA. Korea clinched the two titles in the recurve division with PARK Sea Yane (women) and KIM Bong Man (men). The Koreans also won the three team gold medals (women, men and mixed team), while USA won the compound women's team and mixed team events, and Italy in compound men's team. Recurve Individual The recurve gold medal matches both on men's and women's side ended up on a 6-0 victory by Korean athletes. KIM Bong Man beat LI Ghung Huan from Chinese Taipei, while PARK Sea Yane defeated her teammate JANG Eun Bin. In the men's bronze medal match, the No. 13 seed Elias CUESTA (ESP) led after the first two sets 2-0 and 4-0. His opponent Alexsander MICHALSKI (POL) took the following two sets for a tie at 4-4. Finally, the Spaniard shot 27 points in the last set and won the bronze medal (6-4). On the female side, YANG Nien Hsiu (TPE) was against Korean AN Se Jin for bronze. The score was tied in the first set (1-1). YANG then took the second and third set to lead 5-1. The fourth set turned in favour of AN who came back at 3-5. But YANG finally clinched the bronze medal winning the fifth set and the match 7-3. Compound Individual In compound women Tistan SKARVAN (USA), No. 1 seed, faced Kristina BERGER (GER), No. 3, for the world title. The German lady led by two points after the second end and managed to keep the advantage up to the end for victory 142-141. In the bronze medal match Pascale LEBECQUE (FRA), No. 10, defeated Laura LONGO (ITA), No. 4, 136-130. LONGO shot a miss at her second arrow of the match and trailed 20-29. She caught five points by the fourth end but could never recover totally. In the men's event, the gold medal match was between Francisco Javier VALVERDE (ESP) and Daniel SUTER (USA). After the two archers shot 27 points each in the first end, VALVERDE led by two points (55-53) after two ends. SUTER tied at 82-82 after the third end, but trailed again by one point with one end to go. The American managed to come back again at 138-138 for a shoot-off, in which he clinched victory with a 10 (9 for VALVERDE). Evan SCUDNER (USA) won bronze against Julien DEPOITIER (BEL), 146-145. Compound Mixed Team
Team Matches The team matches were competed according to the hit/miss system. The recurve women’s gold match was Korea against Chinese Taipei. In the first end there were 5 hits for Korea against 2 for Chinese Taipei. The Korean ladies AN Se Jin, JANG Eun Bin and PARK Sea Yane kept the lead up to then end and won the games 16-13 against LIN Hsiao Ying, CHO Pei Chin and YANG Nien Hsiu. The bronze medal match was an exciting match between Poland's Paula WYCZECHOWSKA, Karina LIPIARSKA and Rzasa JOANNA and Japan's Sato Taira MIKA, Nagamine SAORI and Kato AYANO. The two teams were tied at 16-16 and again 3-3 in the shoot-off. However, Poland's best arrow was closer to the centre than the one from Japan for the bronze medal. On the men's side the world title was contended between Korea and Japan. The match was tight in the first half (9-8 for the Koreans). JIN Jea Wang, SUNG Wook Yeong and KIM Bong Man increased their lead and defeated Sato HIROKUNI, Sugimoto SHOTA and Ota SHOHEI by 19-14. The bronze medal match was tied at 17-17 between Chinese Taipei's HUANG Chun Hao, CHIU Yu Chin and LI Chung Huan. They then shot 3 hits against two for Poland's Cis TOMASZ, Alexsander MICHALSKI, Sliwka GRZEGORZ and clinched bronze. The No. 1 recurve mixed team Korea faced the No. 6 Poland. The Asian representatives JIN Jea Wang/JANG Eun Bin took the lead after the second end, 5-3, and kept it to win gold 11-9 against the pair Paula WYCZECHOWSKA/Alexsander MICHALSKI. The bronze medal went to Helena FERNANDEZ/Antonio FERNANDEZ from Spain, who defeated Silvia MATTEUCCI/Massimiliano MANDIA of Italy, 9-6. In compound men, the gold match between USA and Italy was tied until the half-way mark (7-7). The Italians Luca FANTI, Andrea LEOTTA and Jacopo POLIDORI stayed focused and showed a good team work to beat Daniel SUTER, Evan SCUDNER, Eric BEAUDRY, 16-11. The bronze medal match was between Mexico, seeded No. 3, and Malaysia, No. 5. Mexico led after the first end 5-2, but the score was tied after the second, 6-6. Gerado ALVARADO, David MONTIEL VILLANUEVA and Cuauhtemoc Alfredo RODRIGUEZ took the lead once again 11-7 and kept it to win 15-11 against Mohd Kaharuddin ASHAH, Mohd Firdaus ISA and Kurniadi MUHTAR. On the female side, the gold medal match was tied after 16 arrows (8-8). USA's Tristan SKARVAN, Kendal NICELY and Elissa FALCONER then shot 3 more hits, while their opponents Nor Hayati Al-Madihah HASHIM, Fatin Nadira HASSAN and Fatin Nurfatehah MAT SALLEH from Malaysia had none. Victory for USA 11-8! The Korean team won the bronze medal against France. The two teams were tied at 11-11 with one end left. In the last end, the Koreans OH Ji Eun, PARK Won Young, YUN Jae Won, Korean shot one more hit than their opponents Joanna CHESSE, Pascale LEBECQIE and Emeline SALMON for a victory 14-13. In compound mixed team, the German pair made up of Kristina BERGER and Paul TITSCHER was tied with USA's Tristan SKARVAN and Daniel SUTER 6-6 at the half-way mark. The Americans took over by two at the end, 12-10, and clinched the world title. For bronze, Martha Cecilia HERNANDEZ DE LA GARZA and Gerardo ALVARADO (MEX) defeated Fatin Nurfatehah MAT SALLEH and Mohd Firdaus ISA (MAS) on the score of 6-5.
