Korea twice, Mexico and USA take titles in cadet!

Here is a recap of our live commentaries.  Recurve Cadet Women   Gold medal match: KOREA vs RUSSIA The clash of the titans! The No. 1 seed Korea versus the new world record holder Russia! They both had to get used to the stadium in the first end both scoring a low 51. Korea tuned it up a bit in the second end with only one arrow out of the gold. Russia had three 10s and a 9 but also two arrows in the red. Korea led 106-105. Russia came back with the next three arrows to tie at 133-133, but the Koreans continued with 9-9-10, while the Russians had 9-9-9. Korea still led by one point, 161-160.   In the last end, the Russians upped the pressure with 10-9-9, while the Koreans ran into some trouble with 9-8-9. Russia led 188-187 and continued with 10-8-9. Then Korea shot an 8 and need two 10s to avoid their first team defeat in many years! Two 10s they shot to tie the match at 215-215!   In the team shoot-off (one arrow per team member), Russia started well with 10-9 but finished with 7. Korea did not miss the opportunity. They scored three solid 9s to keep their world title!   Bronze medal match: TURKEY vs UKRAINE These teams started the recurve matches. Turkey had a 1-point lead after the first end, 51-50. However, the No. 2 seed Ukraine turned it around in the second end, 103-100 and increased the lead in the third, 157-151.   Turkey tried to put a comeback together in the last end with a 10-10-10! However Ukraine responded well with 10-9-10. The last three arrows did not change anything and the Ukrainians clinched the bronze, 213-207.  Recurve Cadet Men   Gold medal match: KOREA vs UKRAINE The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds met for this gold medal match! Korea shot first and put pressure on their opponents immediately with 10-9-8-9-9-9. The opposition, Ukraine, had three 8s and trailed 52-54. These young athletes were nevertheless ready to turn things around on the second end. No shot was out of the gold ring. Ukraine had 10-9-9-10-9-9. However Korea responded with 9-10-10-9-10-10 to lead 111-108.   The third end did not change anything and Korea led 165-162. Contrary to their women counterparts, the Koreans did not have any trouble in this match. They ended with 9-10-10-10-10-9 to clinch gold 223-217!   Bronze medal match: INDIA vs ITALY The wind calmed a bit down for the latter part of this morning’s session.   The Indians had the best start and led 56-53 points. However they ran into some problems in the second end with only 45 points. Italy took the opportunity with a good 54 to take the lead 107-101, and later on 158-152.   The Italians kept shooting strong in the last end with 10-9-10-9-10-9 to clinch the bronze 215-199!
Compound Cadet Men   Gold medal match: AUSTRALIA vs MEXICO Mexico had another chance to win gold after the girls lost their finals to the USA earlier this morning. The boys had earned silver at the World Archery Youth Championships Antalya-Kundu 2008. A weak 5 by the Australians in the first end gave Mexico the lead 55-50, 108-104.   The Aussies made an impressive come-back in the third end with 9-10-10-10-10-10! Mexico resisted strongly with 10-8-9-10-9-10, despite shooting their last three arrows in only 48 seconds, finishing just in time by just 2 seconds! Mexico led 164-163. The Australians put the pressure on Mexico in the last end, scoring 9-9-10-10-9-10. The Mexicans performed just as well with 10-9-10-9-10-9, to win the first gold for their country, 221-220.   Bronze medal match: USA vs INDIA After the girls’ title, the American boys started strong with 10-9-10-8-10-10 for 57 points. The Indians had a big issue with time management. They did not shoot their last arrow and therefore received a 0. Their intermediate score was only 43.   The Americans did not let up with ends of 58, 57, and 57. The Indians did shoot well for the remainder of the match with ends of 56, 58 but they could not come back. USA won the bronze medal 229-207!  Compound Cadet Women   Gold medal match: USA vs MEXICO The No. 2 seed Mexico started strongly in their first ends, leading$ the No. 1 USA, 28-26, 55-54. The next end was very exciting, with the Americans coming back with a great 10-10-9-10-9-9 to tie Mexico 111-111. The third end was very close, ending in another tie at 167-167.   The USA, who broke the world record earlier this week, put a lot of pressure on Mexico in the last end with 10-9-10-9-9-10. Mexico had 9-9-9 and had to finish with three 10s to tie the match. The Mexicans had a 10, then 9 and an 8. It was gold for USA! Kailey JOHNSTON and Paige PEARCE repeated as world champions!   Bronze medal match: INDIA vs RUSSIA There were strong wind gusts during this match. The two teams tied after the first three arrows. Then Russia took the lead by 8 points after six arrows, but India managed to come back at 76-76 after one Russian girl shot only a 2 in the next end! India took the lead over Russia 105-102, 159-155.    The Russians finished with an impressive 58 in their last end, which meant India had to shoot at least a 9 to win with their last arrow. With only 3 seconds remaining, the last Indian archer managed only an 8 to tie the Russian team at 211-211.
