Welcome to Gunnebo and Trädgårdsföreningen!

The 2006 Field Archery World Championships are taking place this week in Göteborg, Sweden. The qualification and elimination rounds are being held at “Gunnebo Slott” close by, whereas the individual finals will be shot at “Trädgårdsföreningen” park in the very heart of the city.

These two venues are offering exactly what archery needs for its image and to meet the new FITA standards: a great place for a spectacular event, good for archers and close and attractive to the audience.

Gunnebo

The House was built at the end of the 18th century for one of the wealthiest men in Sweden at the time, the merchant John Hall the elder, as his summer residence. It is the famous town architect of Göteborg Carl Wilhelm Carlberg who was commissioned to design both the interior and exterior of the entire estate, including the gardens and the surrounding buildings.

Gunnebo House and Gardens is an historic location, owned and operated today by the Municipality of Mölndal. Between 1949 and 1952 the house was renovated, following the original drawings and other documentation. The surrounding reserve of 100 hectares was opened in September 2003.

The site can be visited and guided tours are offered. It also welcomes a variety of events, including concerts, weddings and feasts. This week it is the place for an archery tournament!

Trädgårdsföreningen

The Horticultural Society Park lies in central Göteborg, not far from the main Avenue. Trädgårdsföreningen was founded in 1842 by Captain Henric von Norman for people with an interest in horticulture.

A magnificent Palm House, which is a copy of Crystal Palace in London, was erected in 1876 and still contains a large collection of exotic plants. In the park, there is also a Butterfly House, a Rosarium with the country’s largest collection of roses, cafés and sometimes musical entertainment. It also includes permanent and temporary works of art and an extraordinary playground for children.

Trädgårdsföreningen will welcome the individual final rounds of the 2006 Field Archery World Championships on Saturday 2nd of September.
