FITA new President on a visit in Lausanne Lausanne - 15 September 2005   The new President of FITA, Dr Ugur Erdener, was passing through the Olympic capital on Tuesday this week for the first time since he was elected. He took advantage of the opportunity to have a meeting with GAISF President Hein Verbruggen. Later in the afternoon he also met the IOC President Jacques Rogge and the Director of ASOIF Bob Fasulo.   Recently elected as President of FITA, Dr Erdener is the Director General of the Hacetteppe Medical Complex of Ankara, Turkey. He is the first person from Turkey to be appointed as president of a Summer Olympic sport federation.   His meeting with Hein Verbruggen, who is also President of the Coordination Commission for the 2008 Beijing Games, took place at the World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland. « It is a wonderful training centre, and Mr. Verbruggen should be proud of it », Dr Erdener said after the visit. The two presidents talked about the challenges that international sports are facing and about Beijing 2008.   Dr Ugur Erdener is convinced that FITA has to be more active for archery to keep its good position among Olympic sports. Among the new President’s main projects are organizing a World Cup Circuit from next year, developing a new sponsorship program and a better TV policy, as well as creating new publications for FITA members.   FITA organizes a Think Tank meeting next weekend in Antalya, Turkey. Its new President wishes to collect some different opinions from its members in order to prepare good strategic plans.   FITA President hopes to draw lessons and advice from his discussions with Jacques Rogge, Hein Verbruggen and Bob Fasulo that will help him improve the situation and profile of archery in the world of sports.
