02 September 2006 - Field World Championships: Interviews of the Medalist

“Winning in Sweden is the best!” Göteborg – 02 September 2006   This is what Morgan Lundin said after his gold medal in front of his fans and family. Here are recap of the quotes from the medalists.   Morgan Lundin (SWE) – Gold medal in Compound Men:   Morgan, Gold medal in front of your fans and family... What’s in your mind? I am very happy; winning in Sweden this is the best! Winning in Sweden is fantastic. I could carry my two little kids to the last target when we were checking the winning score!   You beat Dave Cousins in the Final, whom you have helped tuning his borrowed bow. Did you regret it at some stage? No, not at all. It is very normal to help a fellow competitor. Archery is a big family. I have known Dave for a long time, but I think I have always had been quite lucky and successful against him in the finals.   Is this success a bit of revenge compared to your results in the Outdoor Target World Cup? Not really. I have been shooting well all year long, but I was a bit unlucky in the World Cup.   Dave Cousins (USA) – Silver medal Compound Men:   Dave, you got gold in team yesterday and now silver in individual. How does it feel to do it with a borrowed bow? You have to shoot with your heart not only with your bow! When I arrived last Saturday and saw my bow hadn’t made it, I thought first about going back home. Then, one teammate arrived with the same equipment that I have and I could borrow one of his bows. We could tune it a bit in Morgan Lundin’s shop and I thought it will be all the way up or all the way down.   You almost made it to the top, the same Lundin stopping you in the final Congratulations to him, he shot a perfect score 60 out of 60! I was on my way as well until my last arrow that ended in the 4 rings.   What happened with it? I thought it was a good shot. Unfortunately, people may remember more this last arrow than all the arrows that were shot in the 5 the whole week.   Do you think it was a bit easy for compound archers to reach the 5? Certainly, the courses are becoming a bit easier, a bit more flat. However, the name of the game has changed. Before, you needed to score high, now you need to score perfect. Believe me, this is not easy.   Silke Hoettecke (GER) – Gold medal in Compound Women, winning the shoot off 5-4 in the final: I am so happy! This comes a bit of a surprise to me. Even in my dreams, I never thought I would be a World Champion. I don’t like shoot offs. Everybody is watching you and your harm is shaking... Here, I survived a shoot-off to qualify to the semi-finals and then I win the final in a shoot-off. This is incredible!   Gladys Willems (BEL) – Silver medal in Compound Women: I am very happy with 2nd place, although it is a bit disappointing to have gone this far and fail at the very last moment. Coming here, at my first Field World Championships, I didn’t even expect to make it in the top 4. I actually had to win a shoot-off to qualify to the semis, but I always fight until the last arrow. This is my fourth field event in my life. I am enjoying it because you have to adapt to every target. When you have a good shot, it gives you some courage to go to the next target.   Giuseppe Seimandi (ITA) – Gold medal in Barebow Men: This is great for me! I am only 19 years old and this is my first year with the senior. Yesterday, I also shot very well in the team event. In Italy, we have many good archers and we have a high tradition with barebow. I also shoot Indoor tournaments to train.   Luciana Pennacchi (ITA) - Gold medal in Barebow Women: I qualified being first at the Italian Championships, so I had some hopes coming into the World Championships. Italy is very strong in archery at the moment. This is my first medal at Worlds, but I have already had some at the World Games and the European Championships.   Didier Miéville FITA Communication
