20 October 2006 - Review of Cadet Team Finals: Turkey, Ukraine and USA in Gold !

Review of Cadet Team Finals: Turkey, Ukraine and USA in Gold ! Merida – 20 October 2006   Recurve Cadet Men The Team competition has just ended in Merida with the last title being awarded to Turkey after they won their gold match over Chinese Taipei. This match was exciting up to the very last arrow, and finally the Turkish archers have become World Champions with a tiny little point ahead of their opponents: 220-219. How happy are Ugurcan Sugetiren, Yusuf Corba, Berkin Oskaya and their coaches after the victory!   In this category the bronze medal goes to the Indians – Raju Adonda, Rajib Basumatary and Rabindra Hembrom – after they got the upper hand over Ukraine by 3 points (224-221).   Recurve Cadet Women Russian was the team shooting the highest score in the Recurve Cadet Women very last final round: 215 against Chinese Taipei to win the bronze medal. But the new World Champion in this category is Ukraine after Yuliya Zakharchenko, Nina Mylchenko and Yuliia Cherep took the best over Spain in the gold match on the broad score of 214 to 197.   Compound Cadet Men After winning the title in Junior, the American Compound team has added one more thanks to its Cadets. For Cory Monahan, Adam Wrucj and Corey Muellerbach, there is no doubt regularity was the key: shooting 226 points in their semi-final to Denmark (223), the three young Americans have then scored exactly the same total in the gold final against Switzerland (226-220).   The Swiss boys for their part, led by Kevin Burri - also qualified for the individual gold final to be held tomorrow, could not raise their level high enough in final to have a chance. Although they shot a good 224 score versus Australia in the semi, their final 220 points match was too low to even hope beating USA.   In this category, Denmark with Lasse Eriksen, Thor Soerensen and Kristian Skjolborg takes the bronze over Australia in an exciting and high level match (228-224).   Compound Cadet Women No title awarded in this category because only 5 teams entered the competition… but these girls had all the same opportunity to shoot final rounds and get some experience.   After beating respectively Canada and Mexico, the British and American archers went on to face each other for the 1st place. This match was very close, but finally it is USA with Kendal Nicely, Elissa Falconer and Amber Christensen (USA) who took the advantage over Rosemary Smith, Lucy O’Sullivan and Emily Brown by 2 points (220-218).   In the 3rd place match Canada shot a World Record (226) to defeat the local Mexicans. Competing in front of numerous fans was not enough for Martha Hernandez, Saritza Ibarra and Rosamaria Villasenor, as their opponents proved very strong in this match.     To see the RESULTS, click here...   To see PHOTOS from the competition, click here...     Ludivine Maitre Wicki FITA Communication
