5 April 2007 - World Cup Stage 1 – Quotes of the day

World Cup Stage 1 – Quotes of the day Ulsan – 5 April 2007   We asked the archers the following questions: 1. Does the best archer/team win even when it is windy? 2. What did you think when it was snowing for 5 minutes yesterday? 3. What do you think of your last match today? Park Sung Hyun (KOR)    Park Sung Hyun (KOR) 1. It is windy for both team of archers and the scores get lower but I think at the end the winners are usually the same. One has to accept the wind. 2. Well… the weather is changing a lot this week. Nevertheless, I enjoy shooting in Ulsan and the organisers are doing a good job. They have experienced because I think they organized two international tournaments already. It would be nice to have World Cups in other cities in Korea later, so that we can show the country to the international archers. 3. It was a difficult match because we made some mistakes and the Polish team shot well. We were losing at some point but we came back. As the third shooter, I felt a lot of pressure but I managed to stay focused and overcome it. When I shoot with the team, I am always afraid to do a mistake that will hurt the team. That’s why I have to control my mind. I just have to think about my situation and don’t compare with my opponents. The fans are getting closer and closer in archery. They were cheering a lot! I have Winnie the Pooh on my chest protection. I did it myself and some my team-mates, too. We like it!   Reza Zamaninejad (IRI) 3. I was surprised by the wind this week, because there is no wind in Iran (he actually won the team event and will compete in individual semi-final tomorrow). We believed it was possible to win this team in event, but in sports you never really know. Sometimes you reach the 10, sometimes your are just out. We are very happy we have won. We’ll have a camp before Varese and will compete there as well as in Leipzig.   Im Dong Hyun (KOR) 3. I was nervous today but the coaches and the other archers made me relax. It’s good to have a team win here and I’ll see tomorrow what I can do individually. I wasn’t shooting good last year (until he won the Asian Games in December). I changed club but later on my previous coach joined me again. Since then, it is getting better. I will try hard to get better results this year and I am already thinking about the Olympic Games in Beijing. I think we had a little advantage over the Italians today because we know this kind of wind better. We also watched the women’s game before us and we could make some adjustments from it.   Alison Williamson (GBR) 1. Usually the best team/archers win. However, the wind is tricky here. The small flag on the targets don’t give you much information because they move a lot. I prefer to watch a big sponsor flag, but during our bronze medal match, suddenly somebody from television was holding it to film. So I had to find another one… 2. I didn’t see the snow. We came later to the field. 3. A 3rd place in team at the World Cup Stage 1 is a good start of the season. We’ll keep working. I just wish I would have done better with my individual matches.      Berengere Schuh (FRA) Berengere Schuh (FRA) 1. It’s not sure. 2. We didn’t see the snow. It is surprising in Korea. However, ten days ago for our national trials, we had rain, thunderstorm and hail! Here it is a combination of sun and coldness because of the wind. It is not easy to shoot in such conditions. 3. Our arrows were going a bit too much on the left because of the wind. Then we aimed more one the right, but the wind calmed down... In team, we have less time than in individual to shoot. We must take our decisions quickly. We would have like the bronze here, but with our 2nd place in qualifications and 4th at the end, we achieved the quota given by our federation.   Uniza Ismail (MAS): 1. Yes 2. It was a really good experience for me. I’ve never shot in a snowy day!    Magali Weisgerber (LUX) 1. No. It depends 2. I didn't care about snowing.   Keyvan Riyazimehr (IRI) 1. He can win if he really shoots at his best. The situation is the same for all. 2. I think it made the game more interesting. The weather is not always the same and that's the funniest part in this game.   Mayi Sunsundegui (ESP) 1. Yes. 2. Sorry I wasn't here yesterday but snowy day is better than windy day.   Valerie Fabre's image on the big screen    Valerie Fabre (FRA) 1. No. The wind makes me play hard. 2. It was crazy.   Christina Schaefer (GER) 1. Yes, sure. The best player can win the match whenever. 2. We weren't here in the morning. We just heard the news.   Marian Avita (MEX) 1. If the best player comes from hot country (such as Mexico), he will not do his/ her best. We are not familiar with cold weather. 2. We weren't here. Sorry.   Matija Zlender (SLO) 1. Yes. 2. It doesn't make sense. The temperature was 20 degree with snow. Is it usual in Korea?   Michael Peart (GBR) 1. There would be a champion. Every archer has different skills. The fastest archer (decision, movement) might win. 2. Surprised and unexpected. I just brought Sun Block. Sadly I didn't prepare Snow Block (smiling).   Rajawant Singh Sidhu (IND) 1. The player who is more patient and concentrated can win the match. 2. It was the worst situation for the players who are from hot weather countries.   Winnie (volunteer from Korea) / Didier Miéville FITA Communication
