World Record for Swiss Patrizio Hofer!
Lausanne – 7 July 2007
After excellent results by the young Swiss archers at the European Junior Championships in Portugal at the end of June, the national team members have proved lately that they are ready as well for the World Championships starting this weekend in Leipzig, Germany. Last Sunday Patrizio Hofer improved the World Record at 90m with 348 points, one point higher than the previous record hold since 1998 by Australian Clint Freeman.
Hofer has once again shot a score above 1400 points, which shows his impatience to compete in the World Championships. Coincidence or not, this score was realized last weekend on the Chavannes field in Lausanne where Patrizio set his first world records in 1998 when he was a junior. Patrizio is currently 4th in the World Cup ranking.
His team mate Ruedi Hotz also shone with 1372 points and a superb total with 359 at 30m (this equalizes the Swiss record). The third member of the team was not present in Lausanne, as he was coming back from Portugal with his bronze medal won on 29 June at the European Junior Championships.
The other feat of the day in Lausanne was achieved by Nathalie Dielen who beat the Swiss record at 50m with 325 points. This record dated back to 1983 and was hold by Ursula Schonberg who was present at this tournament and was one of the first to congratulate her fellow countrywoman. With scores of 315 at 70m, 325 at 60m, 325 at 50m and 339 at 30m, she is the third Swiss woman and the first since 1983 to pass the 1300 points barrier.
The two other archers who will travel to Leipzig are Armand Stuby and Chris Marsh.
