Leipzig: Quotes of the Day 6

Recurve Women   Jennifer Nichols (USA) – qualified for the semi-finals 1. I prepared very well. With my personal coach Alexander Kirillov I went to a training camp in Arizona for half a week before we came here. 2. As I never made it to the finals before, I hoped to get there this time. 3. I’m thrilled! It’s so great to be among the top! I’ve never seen so many women competing. That’s an incredible experience.   Natalia Valeeva (ITA) – qualified for the semi-finals 1. I didn’t have much time to prepare because I’ve got three children. Thus it was quite hard work to concentrate on the training, but I used every spare minute I had. 2. My wish was to come back home with a medal. Moreover, I just wanted to enjoy the tournaments as these are my holidays somehow. 3. I feel good now, even though it wasn’t easy at all. The conditions were quite tough. I’m glad that I had the chance for recreation every evening here in Leipzig. I went to some nice places in the city centre.   Iwona Marcinkiewicz (POL) 1. I already started to train five days per week from last year on. 2. My premier goal was to qualify for the Olympic Games. Despite from that, I just wanted to give my best to reach a good score. 3. I’m really satisfied and I’m hoping very much that we’ll win a team medal.   Sylvia Geyskens (BEL) 1. My preparation was very hard work. Luckily, I had one week off before I came to Leipzig. 2. This is only my second year in international competitions. That’s why my intention was to just pass one round. 3. I’m not happy with my result, because I was already eliminated in the first round.   Chekrovolu Swuro (IND) 1. I started to train almost every day last year already. 2. Of course, my main aim was to qualify for the Olympic Games. 3. I’m very happy with my results as I got further than I’ve expected beforehand.   Recurve Men   Simon Terry (GBR) – qualified for the semi-final The 12-arrow matches are always tough. You just have to take it as it comes. I am happy that I went through to the semi-finals. It’s the same with the team matches I just want to focus on now.   Marco Galiazzo (ITA) – Olympic Champion 2004 The wind was really disturbing today so that I had some troubles with my arrows. Well, now I’m hoping the best for the team matches and I’m looking forward to the World Cup in Dover.   Crispin Duenas (CAN) I’m happy, even though I lost. Luckily, I still finished with a high score. With fighting against a Korean I fulfilled myself a life-long dream. After all, I almost beat him. In the end I even qualified for the Olympic Games for the first time. Now I’m hoping for a team medal and the Pan-American Games in Brazil.   David Barnes (AUS) The way it worked out for me is quite alright. There was a bit of wind which wasn’t a perfect condition. Regarding the great deal of strong archers, here the matches are very tough. So looking at my results my mood is neither good nor bad. However I hope all the best for our team.   Tarundeep Rai (IND) My wish was to get among top 20, but I just couldn’t make it. There are only number one archers here so that the fights are very tough. Unfortunately, I discovered some mistakes in my technique. Sometimes the arrow went further left than I had intended.   Prodromos Stamatopoulos (GRE) I’m feeling alright, neither very happy nor very sad. I wasn’t shooting too well and I’m not content with the numbers of arrows I finally made.   Ron van der Hoff (NED) I’m not content at all. I didn’t shoot very well and I made a couple of mistakes. Actually, I hoped to get among top 60 or even top 40, but this didn’t work out, unfortunately. Now I have to analyze what went wrong.   Martin Galik (SVK) My mood is quite bad now. I expected more from myself. It’s very sad to be eliminated in the first match already.   Matej Povz (SLO) I’m very unhappy as I didn’t shoot well at all. Especially my last three arrows were quite bad. It was a tough match. My intention was to qualify for the Olympic Games, but now I want to train as hard as possible for the European Championships at least.   Martin Frederick (GER Coach) I’m having a laughing and a crying eye, just like the motto of these World Championships “Let your eye smile”. Jens Pieper was shooting greatly and he even reached a placement for Germany. He was coping quite well with Victor Wunderle and Magnus Petersson.   Anja Zimmermann FITA Communication
