Dover holds Decisive Stage of Archery World Cup
Lausanne – 25 July 2007
Stage 4 of the Meteksan Archery World Cup, and last qualifying leg, will take place in Dover (GBR) from 31 July to 5 August. The archers coming to Dover have one goal: they want to qualify for the World Cup Final in Dubai next November.

Just two weeks after the superb World Championships in Leipzig, the best archers on earth will meet again in Dover for the last qualifying stage of the Meteksan Archery World Cup 2007. Previously, the archers gathered points in Ulsan (KOR), Varese (ITA), Antalya (TUR) and this is their last chance in Dover. Only the top four individual archers per category qualify for the World Cup Final in Dubai. However, only the top three results from the four stages count and only three archers, all from Russia, have secured a place for the Final so far. Almost everything is still possible in Dover and we are looking forward to some very intense matches.
World Cup Points
Let’s first recap the World Cup points awarded at each stage:
Ø 1st place: 25 points
Ø 2nd place: 21 points
Ø 3rd place: 18 points
Ø 4th place: 15 points
Ø 5th place: 13 points
Ø 6th place: 12 points
Ø 7th place: 11 points
Ø 8th place: 10 points
Ø 9th place: 8 points, then one point less for each rank until the 16th place
Recurve Men
The new Worlds’ silver medallist in Leipzig, Tsyrempilov (RUS), is the only qualified archer in this category. He has 51 points at the World Cup Ranking. Behind him, it is wide open. The new World Champion, Im D. H. from Korea, has 26 points. Wang (TPE), Frangilli (ITA), Xue (CHN) and Kim Y. C. (KOR) have 25 points. They are the favourites to take the three spots remaining. However, archers like Aubert (FRA), Im J.W. (KOR), Kuo (TPE), Serrano (MEX), Yong (CHN) or Bekker (UKR) would have a chance if they reach the semi-final in Dover. With current totals of 10 points or less, archers like Wunderle (USA), Badenov (RUS), Velez Sanchez (MEX), Rai (IND) or new Worlds’ bronze medallist Wills (GBR) would have to win the Dover event and count on some luck to qualify.

Recurve Women
Worlds’ bronze medallist Erdyniyeva (RUS) is qualified with 52 points. She is followed by Choi E. Y. (KOR) with 42 points, Worlds’ silver medallist Park S. H. with 32 points and new World Champion Valeeva (ITA) with 30 points. This shows that truly the best archers are competing in the World Cup, because they were also successful at the World Championships. Lying in ambush to take one of the top four places are the World Cup Winner 2006 Zhang J. J. (CHN), Marusava (BLR), Lee H. Y., Lee T. Y. and Lee S. J. (KOR). Lower on the World Cup ranking, archers like Dodemont (FRA), Haidn Tschalova (GER), Folkard (GBR), Banerjee (IND), Harakawa (JPN), Cwienczek (POL) and Schuh (FRA) could qualify if they win in Dover.
Compound Men
With 53 points, Jimenez (ESA) is almost certain to qualify for the World Cup Final. Brasseur (FRA) and Worlds silver medallist Gellenthien (USA) are also in very good positions with respectively 48 and 46 points. The real battle will be for the fourth place. Currently, Hofer (SUI) had 34 points and a 1-point advantage over Dos Santos (BRA). Logan Wilde (USA) is not far behind with 31 points. Genet (FRA) has 24 points, Zamaninejad (IRI) 21, Hasenfuss (GER) and Van Zutphen (NED) 18, Karsenty (ISR) 16. The level is very high in Compound Men and it is difficult to foresee that anybody else will come back from a lower ranking, although there are some terrific archers like Freeman (AUS), Lundin (SWE), Sitar (SLO) or White (GBR).
Compound Women
Kazantseva (RUS) has 53 points and she is the third Russian archer already qualified for Dubai. Her team-mate and World Cup Winner 2006 Goncharova is on second place with 47 points but she is not sure to qualify. She may need to reach as good as a semi-final in Dover to confirm her spot. The race for points will be intense and Shabani (IRI), 43 points, Van Natta (USA), 40 points, Willems (BEL) and Ericsson (SWE), both 36 points, are ready to give it all in Dover. Lower on the ranking, Davis (USA), Bouillot (FRA) and Akadiani Kusumaniah (IND) would have to win in Dover and hope for some luck with the ranking.
