Team Elimination Matches
Dover – 3 August 2007
Friday morning was the time for the Team Eliminations Matches in Dover. The Recurve division (both Men and Women) and the Compound Men category were on the field with the aim in mind to qualify for this week-end’s team finals. The Compound Women did not shoot today, as they were only four teams to enter this team event, which means they are automatically in the semi-finals that will take place this weekend.
Recurve Men
The tightest quarterfinal match was that between the local team of Great Britain and India. Though leading by three points at the half-way mark (111-108), the British were caught up by their opponent at 165 points with only six arrows to go. In the last end, the local team scored 10-10-9-9-9-8 (55) for a total score of 220. For their part, the Indians shot six times 9 to score 54 additional points, but the first arrow was a liner and could have been a 10 to tie the match. But the Judge checked it and it was finally a 9, which gave victory and a pass to the semi-finals to Great Britain!
In the quarterfinal between Italy and Chinese Taipei the beginning of the match was for the Asian archers who led by one point both after the first and the second ends (54-53/108-107). The Italians then go the upper hand and took a 1-point lead with six arrows to go (160-159). Shooting 56 out of 60 in the last end, the “Azzurri” finally took an easy victory by 216-212.
The two other nations reaching the semis that will take place on Saturday afternoon for the Recurve teams were Germany and China. The Germans were facing the Netherlands in the quarterfinals and they were the ones taking the better start with already five points more after the first six arrows (57-52). The Dutch archers could never recover and kept losing points to lose on the score of 215-225. The Polish team stood firm against the Chinese up to the half-way mark (105-106), but they then lost their footing and were finally defeated by 208-216.
Recurve Women
Ukraine and Italy were facing each other in one of the Recurve Women quarterfinals. Both teams were tied after the first end at 53 points. The Italians then took a 3-point lead at the half-way mark (107-104) that they could maintain up to the end (161-158/213-210).

The local ladies then managed to recover from their disadvantage and tied this duel at 108 points at the half-way mark. They then took the lead by two points (164-162) with only six arrows remaining. Though the Chinese tried hard to come back, they finally had to concede defeat by 214-216.
