No Major Changes in World Ranking after Beijing
Lausanne – 30 August 2007
Park Sung-Hyun (KOR)
The results of the Olympic Test Event did not cause major changes on the ranking lists, other than Korea’s Park return to the first place in the Women Recurve category. Asia continues to dominate the recurve individual rankings.
Men Recurve Individual
Tsyrempilov (RUS), Im Dong Hyun (KOR) and Alan Wills (GBR) kept their positions as the top three archers on the ranking list. Kim Yeon Chul (KOR) added his third tournament to his ranking score and moved up from 9th to 4th place, pushing Serrano (MEX) and Frangilli (ITA) one place down. Simon Terry (GBR) made another important leap forward from 14th to 7th.
Three of the archers who did very well in Beijing last week are now on the front page: Malaysia’s Cheng Chu Sian (12th), Japan’s Furukawa (17th) and World Junior Champion Romain Girouille from France (19th).
Eleven of the top 20 archers come from Asia: Korea (4), Japan (2), China (2), Chinese Taipei (2), and Malaysia (1).
Women Recurve Individual
Korea’s Park Sung-Hyun - gold medal in Beijing - made her move from second to first place in the World ranking, 10 points higher than Erdyniyeva (RUS). No other major changes occurred, except from those involving Polish Mospinek and Cwienczek, who are now 8th and 10th after their medals in China.
Asia has 11 archers in the top 20 here as well: Korea (6), China (3), India (1), and Chinese Taipei (1).
Men Recurve Teams
Korea and Great Britain maintained their top spots on the list, in spite of the poor performance of the British team in China. The United States - bronze medallists in Beijing - moved up three places and are now ranked 5th.
Women Recurve Teams
The only important change in this category is Russia’s moving up from 11th to 8th position after their silver medal in Beijing. Korea, China and Great Britain continue to be on top of the list.
Compound Categories
The new lists are practically the same as the ones published on 16 August 2007.
