18 April 2008 - World Cup Stage 2 – Quotes of the Day 3

World Cup Stage 2 – Quotes of the Day 3 Porec – 18 April 2008
We talked to the archers and coaches after the matches today.
Compound Men
Gigi Vella (ITA) – coach of Italian Compound Men Team Remember at the Indoor World Championships in Firenze 2001, the American team did a World Record during the qualifications and we beat them in the match. Today, the same happened with France. They did the World Record in qualifications but we are going to the final on Saturday. That’s archery!
Compound Women
Amandine Bouillot (FRA) I think it’s really coming together now. I have had some good performances last year and a nice 4th place in Santo Domingo two weeks ago. I feel good and I am looking forward to both finals (individual and team) tomorrow. I will shoot twice against Nichola Simpson. She is a very nice person on the field, but I haven’t seen her much shooting. I will concentrate on my own shots. That’s the most important.
I think we have a very nice balance of personality in the team. It blends together really well. I am shooting at the first position but I don’t feel like I am the captain. I can give some information about the wind conditions to the others. It’s tactical.
Nicola Simpson (GBR) I may have beaten the master world record in Santo Domingo and came pretty close to it again in Porec, but actually, the big change is that I am a now a full time archer. Since the beginning of the year I can spend more time on the field and in the gym. I think this is why I am getting such nice results this season (redaction note: she also won the Las Vegas Indoor). I have been on a final field in Antalya in 2006 and I am looking forward to come back on the big stage tomorrow. Amandine Bouillot seems a very solid shooter, but I’ll do my best.
It was the first time the team was shooting together last year. I think we learned a lot and this season it’s definitely going better.
Ernest Mertens (BEL) – coach of Belgium Compound Women Team This is the first time this team is shooting together since we became World Champions in Leipzig last year. Two of the team members are really young and they may feel like nothing can go wrong after being World Champion at such a young age. However, our performances this season show that we are not there. We know better. We know we must keep working hard to stay at the top level. It’s also not so easy, because Petra and Catheline must now balance their time between archery and the university. Anyway, we will be shooting for bronze tomorrow and to play on a final field is always a good experience.
