The ultimate aim of the team eliminations is to shoot on the beach

On Friday morning the teams shot the elimination matches up to the semi-finals. The winners of the quarterfinals won the right to shoot on the beach in the afternon!

  Recurve Men
    1st round: Korea – Germany
Another disappointing 1st round loss for the Korean powerhouse! They lost in Porec against Turkey. This time, there faced no. 16 Germany who led 107-105 at half-time. The Germans continued with a solid 10-10-10-9-9-8, while the Koreans dropped another point, scoring 10-10-10-8-8-9. It got even worse for the Koreans. They only managed 9-9-6-10-9-7 in the last end. The Germans did not feel the pressure and finished the match 10-8-10-9-8-8. Germany beat Korea 216-210!


  1st round: Russia – Australia
A tight match between these two countries. The first end was tied at 57 pts. Then Russia shot a consistent end (8-9-9-9-9-10) to take the lead 111-108. The Australians struck back with X10-8-10-9-9-7 and came back 162-163. However Russia managed victory. They shot X10-10-9-X10-10-8 and clinched the match 220-218.


      Quarter-final: Chinese Taipei - Russia
The match was tied at half-time, 104-104. Chinese Taipei kept shooting strongly with X10-10-8-9-X10-8 for 159 points. Russia managed only 7-10-9-9-7-8 for 154 points. The Russians tried to come back with 9-X10-7-8-9-9 for 206 points. Chinese Taipei managed to a small win: 9-8-7-8-10-7 for 208 points.


  Quarter-final: Germany - Turkey
As it happens often, the underdogs could not follow through after their victory against Korea. Germany trailed 46-50 at the start, then 97-102, 149-157 and 200-207. A nice victory for Turkey!


    Semi-final: Turkey – Malaysia
Surely the Turkish hosts would have loved a final at home… but it wasn’t meant to be. They started OK with 9-8-10-8-8-9 for 52 points. However, Malaysia hsot 7-9-10-8-10-10 to take the lead 54-52. They did not let go. Malaysia led 110-100, 159-150 and won 216-204.

    Semi-final: Chinese Taipei – India
The match was really tight until the half. India held a small lead 106-105. However Chinese Taipei only shot 8-8-8-7-9-9 in the third end. Not enough. India led 162-154 and clinched the match 218-210!


    Recurve Women
    1st round: Colombia – Ukraine
Another exciting match until the very end! Both teams were tied at 54 pts and the Ukraine took a small lead 102-101. Colombia came back with 8-8-8-X10-8-9 and took the edge 152-150. However, the Colombians opened the door when they shot only 7-8-8-7-10 and 4 to conclude the match. The Ukrainians were going to win with 9-10-9-9 but they could not hold it to the end. They shot a 4 and then a miss with their very last arrow. Colombia won 196-191!

      1st round: Poland – Georgia
These two met for another time this season! The scores were close until the half-time: 52-51, 96-95, then Poland made the difference: 152-143 and clinched the match 203-194.


      Quarter-final: China - USA
The matches can be cruel. One bad arrow and one loses. The USA was neck to neck with China after the first end, 52-53. However, the Americans shot a 3 with their eleventh arrow. That was it! They trailed 97-107, then 151-158. The USA tried to come back in the last end but China prevailed, 208-205.

  Quarter-final: Chinese Taipei – Italy
Chinese Taipei took a 2-point lead after the first end and never let go. They scored 9-8-9-10-9-8 for 53 points. Italy had 8-7-X10-9-9-8 for 51 points. Then Chinese Taipei led 103-101, 156-154. Chinese Taipei scored a 6 in the last end, but the Italians could not capitalize on it. They had a 5. Final score: 204-201 for Chinese Taipei!


      Semi-final: Korea - Poland
The beginning of the match was tied at 52 points. Then the Koreans took a small lead. They shot 7-10-8-X10-9-9 and 9-9-9-9-9-9 and reached 159 points. Poland had 9-10-9-9-8-7 and 9-9-8-8-9-10 for 157 points. The Koreans followed through to win the match 212-204!


  Semi-final: China - Chinese Taipei
Between the two neighbours, Chinese Taipei had the better start – and the better finish. They led 50-47, 104-95, 157-147 and clinched the match 208-197.


      Compound Men
      1st round: Brazil - Turkey
In team matches, the archers shoot four ends of six arrows.

The home team started well with 57 points compared to Brazil's 55 in the first end. The Turkish maintained a 1-point advantage after the second end with some more impressive shooting from both teams (X10-X10-10-9-9-9/114 for Turkey and X10-10-10-10-9-9/113 for Brazil). However, the Turks could not keep it up achieving 10-9-9-9-8-8 in the third end. Brazil took the advantage 170-167 and concluded the match with a 226-219 victory.
    1st round: Venezuela - Spain
The Venezuelans started better, leading 56-53 after the first end. However, Spain came back strong in the second end and took a 1-poin lead (110-109). They held it after 18 arrows (166-165) and clinched the match 221-219.
      1st round: Russia - Denmark
The Russians had a comfortable lead at the beginning (55-50), but the Danish made it interesting. They came back 111-113 and 167-168. Still they fell short 220-223. Russia wins!

  Quarter-final: Netherlands – Spain
Seeded no. 1 and fresh European Champion, the Netherlands were the heavy favourites. However, both teams did not start the match well: 51-51 after six arrows. The Dutch picked it up a little with a 56 end (9-10-X10-9-10-8), but the Spanish did even better with 59 points (10-10-10-10-9-10)! They kept their 3-point lead after 18 arrows (165-162) and even increased their lead in the fourth end. Bad day for the Dutch who lost 215-220!

      Quarter-final: Iran – Russia
Both teams were at about the same level at the half. Iran had 10-10-9-9-9-9 and X10-9-8-9-10-9 for 111 points. Russia shot 8-9-9-9-10-10 and 9-9-10-9-10-10 for 112 points. Both teams continued with 29 points with the next three arrows. However, that was it for the Iranians. They followed with 8-8-8 while the Russians had 9-X10-10. The Iranians could not catch up and the Russians clinched the match 220-217.


    Quarter-final: Slovenia - USA
Again both teams were at about the same level after 12 arrows. Slovenia shot 10-X10-8-8-10-9 and 7-X10-9-X10-10-9 for 110 points. The USA shot 8-9-10-10-X10-9 and 9-9-X10-9-9-10 for 112 points. However, the USA followed with 59 and 56 points to clinch the match 227-223!

    Semi-final: Spain - USA
The Spanish continued shooting well this morning. They tied a traditionally strong US team at 55 points after six arrows. They took the lead after 12 arrows, 109-108. However, they could not continue at this level. They shot 10-9-8-10-8-8 in the third end, compared to the Americans’ 9-X10-10-10-7-X10. USA took the lead 164-162. Then the Spanish finished badly with 6-7-9-7-10-9. The USA managed 10-9-9-8-7-9 and clinched the match 216-210.

  Semi-final: Russia - Italy
The underdog Russians also ran out of gas in this semi-final match. They were leading 52-51 but they quickly fell behind to 103-106, shooting only 9-9-9-8-9-7 in the second end. Then the Italians controlled the match with 9-9-8-9-X10-9 and 9-9-9-10-10-10 and won it 217-210.

    Compound Women
    Semi-final: Russia - Turkey
The home team fought well but the Russian powerhouse proved to be a bit too much for the locals. Russia led 53-49. The Turkish came back with a good end: 9-9-10-9-9-9. However the Russians did not let go, shooting 10-9-9-10-9-10. They led 110-104, then 160-156 and won 213-207.

      Semi-final: Venezuela – Great Britain
The match started with a tied end, 53-53. Then Great Britain took a small lead (109-105) with 10-X10-10-10-9-7 compared to Venezuela’s 9-9-10-10-7-7. Great Britain followed through with 9-8-10-6-9-8 for 159 points. However, the third end was a catastrophe for Venezuela. They could not shot their last arrow on time, therefore their got only to 146 points. "Game over..." Great Britain won 211-197.
   
The finals will take place on the beach of Antalya as of 14h50, local time.
