India, Korea, Italy and Russia leave Antalya with gold

In the afternoon the team finalists competed on an extraordinary field: the finals of the third World Cup stage took place on the beach of Antalya! Asia were in the place of honour in the Recurve division with India winning the men's event and Korea the women's. The teams of Italy and Russia took gold in Compound Men and Women.

  Recurve Men
    Gold Medal: MALAYSIA - INDIA
India shoots first on target no. 2 in the last match of the day. Banerjee opens with 9, Champia with 7 and Talukdar with another 7 (23). Wan Ab Aziz, Sulaiman and Cheng for Malaysia all start with an 8 (24). The Indians continue with three 9s (50) and their opponents double their lead with 9-9-10 (52). Banerjee and his fellows then rediscover their best shooting and with 10-10-9 they total up 79 pts. Malaysia scores 9-9-10 and hold only a 1-point advantage (80). India goes on with 10-8-9 (106). The difference remains after their opponents get 8-10-9 (107). Banerjee and Champia shoot 10s and Talukdar 9 for a total of 135 after 15 arrows. The situation reverses with Malaysia scoring 7-9-9 (132). India with 10-9-8 and Malaysia with 10-8-10: the Indians lead by 2 (162-160). Their opponents think they still have a voice in the match and start the last end with three 9s (188). However, the Indians keep a 3-point advantage with 10-8-10 (190). Team Malaysia finishes with 9-10-9 and 215 pts total. India clinches the gold medal with two 10s and a 9 (218).
  Bronze Medal: TURKEY - CHINESE TAIPEI
The athletes from Chinese Taipei, Kuo, Chen and Wang, make a solid start with 29 pts (10-9-10). Their local opponents score 8-8-7 and trail by 6 (23). The team of Chinese Taipei increases its lead with 9-7-10 (55). Turkey scores 7-9-9 (48) and trails by 7 pts. Orbay, Satir and Kucukkayalar shoot first in the second series of six arrows. They total up 75 pts with 7-10-10. Chinese Taipei takes a 9-point lead with 10-9-9 (83). However, they have only 51 seconds left on the clock to shoot their next three arrows... The local team reaches the half-way mark with a total of 103 after they shoot 10-9-9. Hurried by time the archers of Chinese Taipei succeed in scoring three 10s and maintain a comfortable lead (113). They continue with a perfect end (10-10-10) and strangle their opponents (9-10-7 for Turkey). The difference between the two teams goes up to 11 pts (169-158) with six arrows to go. With no pressure left on their shoulders, the locals regain their composure and score 10-10-9 (187). Chinese Taipei shoots 10-9-9 and lose 1 point (197). Turkey ends with another good 10-10-9 series and a total of 216 pts. With 9-9-10 (225), Kuo and teammates deliver the bronze medal to Chinese Taipei!
    Recurve Women
    Gold Medal: KOREA - CHINESE TAIPEI
Joo, Park and Yun for Korea open the gold final with 9-8-9 (26). Wei, Wu and Yuan from Chinese Taipei trail by 1 pt with 7-9-9 (25). Korea continue with three 9s and a total of 53. Chinese Taipei ties up shooting 10-9-9 (53). The Olympic Champion Park, new World Record holder (12-arrow match) Yun and their fellow Joo continue with another 10 and two 9s (81). The Koreans increase their lead at the half-way mark with 8-10-10 (109). Yuan and teammates score 9-9-8 and trail by 3 (106). Wei follows with 10, Wu with another 10 and Yuan with 7 for an intermediate total of 133. Team Korea shoots another strong series with 10-10-9 and take a 5-point lead (138). The archers from Chinese Taipei get 27 additional points (10-8-9/160). The difference between the two teams stabilizes with Korea shooting three 9s (165). Chinese Taipei starts the last end of six arrows with 9-9-10 (188). Korea follows with 10-9-9 (193) and the 5-point difference remains. Chinese Taipei finishes with 7-9-9 (213). The Korean favourites clinch a comfortable victory with two final 9s and a 10 (221)!
  Bronze Medal: POLAND - CHINA
Zhang, Guo and Chen start with 9-10-8 (27) for China. The Polish Mospinek, Cwienczek and Marcinkiewicz open with 8-8-9 and trail by 2 (25). China ends the first 6-arrow series with 6-9-7 (49). Their opponents recover 1 point thanks to 6-9-8 (48). Poland shoots three strong arrows (10-9-10) and take the lead 77-76 (9-10-8 for China). However, the Asian ladies then shoot 9-10-9, while the Polish score 9-10-8, and the match is tied at the half-way mark. The 2006 World Cup Final winner Zhang and her teammates start the second part of this duel with 9-10-10 (133). Led by Mospinek, silver medalist at the second World Cup stage in Croatia, Poland takes the lead thanks to three perfect 10s (134). However, with three 9s, they let their contenders come back and tie up at 161 (9-10-9 for the Chinese). The two teams are very close and the winner is not decided yet... China scores 9-10-7 (187) and Poland regains the lead with 8-10-9 (188). The Chinese finish with 10-8-9 and total up 214 pts. Their opponents hand them victory with a low 8-8-9 last series (213)!
    Compound Men
    Gold Medal: USA - ITALY
Pagni starts for Italy with 9. Tosco follows with 10 and Mazzi with 8 (27). Gatto, Schiavo and Gellenthien open with 10-9-10 (29). The USA take the lead by 2 pts. Their opponents from European score 9-9-10 (55). The latter trail by 3 after the Americans shoot two more 10s and a 9 (58). The Italian Pagni scores a 10, whereas Tosco follows with 9 and Mazzi with 10 (84). The Americans lose one point shooting 10-9-9 (84). Team Italy puts pressure with a perfect end (10-10-10) and 30 additional points (114). The USA reply with three 10s as well and keep their mind advantage (116). Another 10-10-10 for Italy! The Americans shoot 10-10-9 and the Italians come back to 1 point (145-144). With 10-10-9 Italy totals 173. Team USA takes a 2-point lead again with 10-10-10 (175). Pagni and teammates start the last end with 9-10-10 (202). They tie after the USA scores 9-8-10 (202). The Italians finish with 10-9-10 and a score of 231 pts. Gellenthien and fellow countrymen end their match with 9-10-10 (231) to go to a shoot-off! Pagni scores 10, Tosco 10 and Mazzi 9. Gatto and Schiavo both shoot a 9 and Italy wins gold before Gellenthien releases his final arrow (10)! Italy beat USA 29-28 in the tie-break.
  Bronze Medal: SPAIN - RUSSIA
Spain starts with 10-9-10 (29). Russia opens the match with three 9s (27) and trails by 2. Rodriguez, Jerez and De La Torre score 10-9-9 (57). Abiduev, Chepik and Volkov minimize the score with 9-10-10 (56). They now shoot first and score 8-10-10 (84). The team of Spain takes a 3-point lead thanks to three perfect arrows (10-10-10/87). Russia shoot 8-10-9 (111). Rodriguez and Jerez both score a 9 and De La Torre releases a 10 just before the clock! They gain 1 more point (115). The Russians continue with a nice 9-10-10 (140) and recover a little after their opponents shoot three 9s (142). They then total up 168 pts with 9-9-10. Reversal of the situation: the Spanish go from leading to trailing after Jerez misses the target (10-M-9/161)! They don't give up and score 9-10-10 (190). However, their opponents from Russia do even better with three 10s (198). The team of Spain finishes with 10-9-9 (218). The bronze medal match goes to the Russians who clinch the match with 225 pts (8-9-10).
    Compound Women
    Gold Medal: RUSSIA - GREAT BRITAIN
Great Britain shoots first on target 1. Gales opens with 7, Simpson with 10 and Hunt with 10 (27). Kazantseva starts for Russia and shoots 10. Her teammates Goncharova and Loginova imitate her with two 10s (30). Great Britain go on with 8-8-10 (53). Russia shoots 8-9-9 and takes a 3-point lead (56). Gales and fellow countrywomen put pressure with a perfect 10-10-10 (86)! The Russians maintain a 2-point lead with 10-10-9 (85). At the half-way mark Team Great Britain total up 111 pts (10-9-9). The British still trail by 2 after Russia shoots 9-10-9 (113). They start the second half of the match with a triple 9 (138). Two-time World Cup finalist Kazantseva and fellows increase their lead to 4 pts with 10-9-10 (142). Three other 9s for Great Britain and 9-10-10 for Russia. The East Europeans hold a 6-point advantage now (171-165). Gales continue with a 10, Simpson shoots 9 and Hunt a 9 as well (193). Kazantseva scores 9, Goncharova 9 and Loginova 10 (199). The British finish with a strong end of 10-9-10 (222), but this is not enough to recover against the Russian champions (8-10-8) who take gold with 225 pts.
  Bronze Medal: TURKEY - VENEZUELA
Venezuela shoots first on target no. 2. They start with 9, then follow with 8 and 9 (26). Turkey shoots 10-9-8 (27) and takes a 1-point lead after three arrows. Venezuela continues on with a 9-8-9 (52). The Turkish girls double their advantage with a triple 9 (54). Venezuela puts pressure with 10-10-9 (81). Their opponent hold the score with 10-9-10 (83). With 9-7-9 (106) Venezuela offers a good chance to Turkey to increase their lead. The latter take advantage of it and doubles the lead with a triple 9 (110). The Venezuelans continue with 10-10-8 (134). The local ladies shoot 8-9-9 and lose 2 pts (136). The South Americans regain their best shooting again and score three very nice arrows (10-9-10/163). Turkey loses all advantage with 10-9-7 and now trail by 1 pt (162). The team of Turkey now shoots first on target then score 9-9-8 (188). Venezuela with three 9s go to 190 pts. Turkey score 10-9-8 (215) while their opponents get 9-8-9 (216). Bronze medal for the Venezuelans!
