Park and Elzinga lead again! Boe – 24 June 2008
The Archery World Cup Stage 4 started today in Boe, France. The first categories to compete in the qualifications were the Recurve Women and Compound Men in the morning session. Once more the Olympic Champion Park Sung-Hyun (KOR) and the Dutchman Peter Elzinga led the pack.
Recurve Women Park made the difference in the second half, shooting 339 points with 36 arrows. She reached a total of 670 pts (for 72 arrows). The winner of the last two World Cup stages, Yun OK Hee (KOR), ranked 2nd with 665 pts. Preparing for the Olympics, two Chinese archers emerged in 3rd and 4th place: the famous Zhang Juan Juan with 664 pts and Zhao Ling with 663. Justyna Mospinek (POL) suffered a bit from the heat in the second half and dropped to 5th place with 662. The top ten is completed with great archers: Joo Hyun Jung (KOR), Victoria Koval (UKR), Naomi Folkard (GBR) and World Champion Natalia Valeeva (ITA). The only small surprise came from Natalia Sanchez (COL) in 10th place. Some other athletes will have to climb back the ladder during the match play: Jennifer Nichols (USA), 12th, Nami Hayakawa (JPN), 17th, Natalya Erdyniyeva (RUS), 19th and Berengere Schuh (FRA), 43rd.
On the team side, Korea leads without surprise on 1996 pts with three archers in the top 10. China came back in the second half to finish 2nd with 1937 pts and Italy took 3rd with 1934 pts. Ukraine ranked 4th with 1921 pts. It looks like the teams are training hard for the upcoming Olympics!
Compound Men Like in Antalya four weeks ago, the Dutchman Peter Elzinga led the pack. This time he was not far off the world record with 709 pts! Martin Damsbo (DEN) is always good in the qualifications. The bronze medallist of the 2007 World Championships achieved 705 pts for 2nd place. Frenchman Dominique Genet was just one point behind. The 4th to 10th places were as usual very tight. Patrizio Hofer (SUI) had 701 pts; the winner of the last two stages, Sergio Pagni achieved 700 pts. Then five athletes had 699 pts: Patrick Coghlan (AUS), Liam Grimwood (GBR), Kevin Tataryn (CAN), Pierre Julien Deloche and Sebastien Brasseur (FRA).
The French team almost broke its World Record established in Porec last May. They had 2102 pts, just one point behind their mark in Porec. Canada is 2nd thanks to a greater amount of 10s. They scored 2070 pts as did Australia. Spain is 4th with 2060 pts and Switzerland is 5th with 2033 pts.
