World Cup Stage 4 – Quotes of the Day 2 Boe – 25 June 2008
Here are the quotes from the elimination matches today. The road to the World Cup Final in Lausanne was tough.
Recurve Men
Kim Ha-Neul (AUS) I'm not well, I woke up with my foot completely swollen and I don’t know why, I would like to understand actually. Today I'm really shooting well and at the moment the weather is fine so let's see what happens in the next matches.
Victor Ruban (UKR) This year we had a training camp in Kiev just before Vittel and today we get the desired result in this important international event. I ended up number one seed of the Qualification Round and now I'll go to shoot for Gold. I have always dreamt of a final like this and I hope it will be a good start for next event, the Olympic Games.
Li Wenquan (CHN) At the beginning I wasn't concentrating too much in the competition, I focused on myself and my way of shooting. I focus mainly on shooting action even if my goal is to win the individual Gold Medal. I'm thankful to my leaders for their support and their assistance. Now I concentrate on the Gold Medal match on Saturday.

Recurve Women
Park Sung-Hyun (KOR) I was a little nervous when I lost the first end against Zhao Ling. After six arrows I was feeling a lot of pressure on my shoulders but I succeeded in taking control of the match. With the final three 10s, I knew for sure I would be in the final for gold in Boé. To tell the truth, it was one of the matches when the tension was at maximum level.
Zhang Juan Juan (CHN) I am writing down the feeling of each of my competitions. Now I use the little notepad we received at the World Cup Stage in Porec. It’s a little bit of a pity today. I was shooting really well until my last six arrows of the semi-final. I felt like I was still shooting 10s but obviously my feeling didn’t match with reality. I scored too many 8s with my last six arrows and that cost me the match. Maybe the stress or the raising wind influenced these arrows.
In any case, it’s a good result and it gives me confidence for Beijing. I always keep in my mind that I want to peak for the Olympic Games. After each competition, we assess the overall performances and we figure out the things to improve. I think our long-term planning is working well.
Today the weather isn’t as hot as the previous days here. However, it’s all the time heat in Beijing especially in August. Since I am used to it, I should not have any problem with it. Maybe it will be an advantage.
Urantungalab Bishindee (MGL) - after winning her match against World Champion Natalia Valeeva. It's the first time I shot against Valeeva and I wasn't able to believe that I could win a match against her. I'm really happy: you know she is one the most important archer ever in the history! But I won against her – it’s unbelievable!
Sabrina Struyf (BEL) – after winning her 1st round match I was not the favourite of the match, but I shot well and had a good feeling. Next match is against the Chinese Zhang Juan Juan; I will just do my best and see how she shoots!
Victoria Koval (UKR) after Victor Ruban’s shoot-off I hope he will be the first Ukrainian to win a World Cup Stage. I was only second in Antalya, but all the Ukrainian team is waiting for a victory.

Compound Men
Patrizio Hofer (SUI) Again I was feeling really good today except for the first three arrows of the semi-final. They cost me the match. Anyway, this result here qualifies me for the World Cup Final in Lausanne. The last two years, I was really close to qualify, but this time I made it! I am very, very happy!
Peter Elzinga (NED) In my quarter-final, many arrows were just out of the 10-ring. Maybe I could not manage the rising wind or the stress at that time. In any case, 112 isn’t good enough to win the match. Now my qualification lies in the hands of Patrick Coghlan (AUS). It depends how well he finishes here.
Sergio Pagni (ITA) My quarter-final against Hofer was difficult: I was shooting against a great friend of mine and a strong archer. Unfortunately I didn't shoot as well as the past stages of the World Cup. When the match began, I was more relaxed than Patrizio: I knew mathematically that I will be in Lausanne in September for the World Cup Final. Last but not least, you know that winning three stages in a row is almost impossible, even statistics were against me. By the way, I hope Patrizio will win here in Boe.
Franck Karsenty (ISR) In my third round match, I had a two-point lead over Martin Damsbo before the interruption (due to a mishandling of the timer). Mentally I could not manage this break. When I came back on the line I shot two 9s and two 8s while Damsbo stayed consistent, shooting 57+57. He won the match 114-112. I am having too many mental mistakes during the major competitions. Even with the experience it’s difficult to manage.

Compound Women
Jamie Van Natta (USA) I am slightly disappointed with my last match, but overall I am happy with my shooting, especially since I now know my place in the World Cup Final is confirmed after this result.
Luzmary Guedez (VEN) I am so happy! I was feeling really good, I was calm and comfortable. I did a lot of training before coming here as we were in the Madrid Archery Centre with the Recurve team. I worked a lot on my discipline and I think what made me get here is my hunger to be among the best archers in the world.
Nichola Simpson (GBR) I did what I had to do, I knew I had to go that far to get my place in the World Cup Final and I am glad I got it! I am very pleased with my shooting and I am happy to go for Gold here and I also look forward to shooting in the Finals on Saturday with this new system in the evening with lights. It will be a new experience.
Anna Kazantseva (RUS) I don’t know what happened, I think it is just bad luck. I am not still disappointed. I will fight for Bronze on Saturday!
