LEE (KOR) and PROC (POL) break 12-arrow Olympic record  Beijing - 13 August 2008   With the crowd chanting his name after each arrow, the No. 10 seed LEE Chang-Hwan (KOR) shot a near perfect score of 117 out of 120 points to set a 12-arrow Olympic record in the men's individual elimination rounds at the Olympic Green Archery Field on Wednesday.   The Olympic record of 115, set at Atlanta 1996, was broken twice on Wednesday morning. The first archer to break it was the No. 19 seed Jacek PROC (POL) photo when he shot a 116 to defeat China's LI Wenquan in the 1/32 elimination round.   In one of the last matches of the session, LEE shot a 117 to defeat Yusuf Goktug ERGIN (TUR) in his 1/16 elimination match.   The No. 3 seed, Viktor RUBAN (UKR) advanced easily to the 1/8 elimination round as expected. He defeated Maged YOUSSEF (EGY) in the 1/32 elimination round and Michael NARAY (AUS) in the 1/16 elimination round. RUBAN shot a score of 115 against NARAY, the third highest score of the day.   In the biggest upset of the morning, the No. 2 seed, Mangal Singh CHAMPIA (IND) failed to advance to the top 16. CHAMPIA lost to the No. 31 seed Bair BADENOV (RUS), 109-108, but BADENOV did not win his next match.   Other archers of interest who advanced to the 1/8 elimination round include Baljinima TSYREMPILOV (RUS) and Jay LYON (CAN). LYON knocked out USA favourite Brady ELLISON in the 1/16 elimination round, 113-107.   Notable losers include Sky KIM (AUS) and Simon TERRY (GBR). KIM, the winner of the 2007 Beijing test event was knocked out by PROC, 111-110, in the 1/16 elimination round.   TERRY, the No. 7 seed and individual bronze medallist from Barcelona 1992 was defeated on his last arrow in the 1/32 elimination round by the No. 57 seed Matti HATAVA (FIN), 105-104.
