World Archery offers badge reward programmes for beginner and elite athletes.

Award badges for the beginner programme are earned by achieving milestones in score, skills and archery knowledge. The badges are available to buy through the online shop and can be purchased by federations or clubs administering the programme, or by individual archers.

Award badges for the performance programme are earned by achieving scores on standard competition rounds in registered competition. The badges are also available to buy through the online shop however they can only be purchased by national archery federations, which administer the programme at their own discretion. (Archers are unable to purchase these award badges directly.)

There are more than 30 beginner and performance badges to collect in total.

One of the most sought-after badges is the purple star, which is earned by achieving a score of 1400 or more points on the 1440 Round in registered competition. More than 80 compound archers have been awarded the purple star but, to date, only two recurve archers have earned the badge: Korean women Park Sung-Hyun and Ryoo Su Jung.

Beginner badges

The feather and arrow award badges reward archers who are learning the sport. There are seven badges to collect by achieving milestones in score, skills and archery knowledge, which are detailed in the programme curriculum. Federations may use these badges to run an alternative reward programme.

Badges can be purchased in the online shop.

The available awards are as follows:

  • Red feather
  • Yellow feather
  • White arrow
  • Black arrow
  • Blue arrow
  • Red arrow
  • Yellow arrow

Performance badges

The star, silver star, target and arrowhead award badges recognise score achievements on the standard competition rounds for the target archery, indoor archery and field archery disciplines. The scores that archers must achieve are detailed in the World Archery Rulebook.

National archery federations can purchase badges in the online shop. Badges cannot be purchased by archers.

Award badges can be claimed from any event registered in the World Archery calendar, also known as world record status events, and most are approved and issued by a national archery federation. However claims for high-performance awards – which include the gold and purple star and silver star, gold and purple target and silver target, and gold and silver arrowhead badges – must be submitted to World Archery by the national federation for approval.

Star and silver star awards

Star award badges are available for recurve and compound archers and earned by hitting points milestones on the 1440 Round.

The 1440 Round consists of 36 arrows each at 90, 70, 50 and 30 metres for men and 70, 60, 50 and 30 metres for women; the furthest two distances use a target face measuring 122 centimetres in diameter and the shortest two use a target face measuring 80-centimetres in diameter.

Silver star award badges are available for recurve and compound archers shooting in the under-18 (cadet) and over-50 (master) age groups and earned by hitting the same points milestones but on the shorter versions of the 1440 Round, consisting of 36 arrows at 70, 60, 50 and 30 metres for men and 60, 50, 40 and 30 metres for women).

The gold star, purple star, gold silver star and purple silver star award badges are considered high-performance awards and can only be issued by World Archery.
